Preach it. Especially the part about the pants. The last several seasons have been full of them, pick your label: skinny jeans, cigarette pants, slim cut, taper leg, whatever. We are talking pants that are significantly narrower at the ankle than they are at the knee.
These must look good somebody but I do not have that body. Skinny leg pants do me no favors. They are not slimming or flattering; they give me the silhouette of a triple decker ice cream on a pointy sugar cone.
Skinny leg pants need to go away soon. My last pairs of boot-cut pants are starting to look scruffy and I don’t want to have to wear dresses next winter.

“What KIND of tribe, Macy’s?”
I love you.
I actually think some of the jumpsuits are cute. Haven’t bought one though because I don’t think they’ll be around long. I would love to find a nice pair of cigarette pants, but all I can find are skinny jeans – yuck!
I’ve decided they have gotten all their ideas by smooshing styles from 1920s Downton Abbey and nearly 1970 Madmen. It explains a lot, doesn’t it? The flat-chest, super-lace, shapeless line (I mean yay, we’re not wearing corsets, but…) and the groovy, flowy, patterned early 70s pants with ballooned legs. My work is done here.
GAH! They’re all hideous! Nuf said…
I’m wondering what you know about Everlane. Their FB ads are tempting.
Please do this every week. Please, I ask you through the cramps that I got from laughing so hard.
“This pendant? It’s going to make you bleed…. Choose safe pendants.”
“Moto’s short for motorcycle.”
“Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.”
If you do this every week for 6 weeks, I’ll buy all of your drinks at GA.
[OH, and I am such a sucker for making people laugh!! I will definitely share my mental catalogue commentary with all of you if you enjoy it. – PB]
I picked up two pairs of black “jean” style trousers at Jaeger yesterday, on sale. One pair has all the “jean” style pockets, while the other has two pockets with the openings parallel to the waistband and two subtle patch pockets on the bum. Fabric with lycra in to give a bit of a stretch….long enough that one pair will have to be taken up (or I will have to wear higher heels than I can comfortably walk in).
Both look good with jackets, cardigans and fleeces (the vicarage is cold…)
And Jaeger cut for my body-shape! No puckered seams or lots of fabric in odd places…pity I can only afford them in the sales.
Yay!!
You should totally do clothing commentaries more often. This made my day. [I had fun, too. I will do it more often. – PB]
This really made my day, all the way across the ocean in Switzerland! Thanks for making me laugh during a tough time. I usually spend my time lamenting the lack of any plus size options here, but see that the grass isn’t always greener…! [I’m so glad I made you laugh, sweetie. I hope things were better today. – PB]
I enjoyed your rant. It is so hard to find appropriate and flattering clothes!
I second Rev. Erika! “Choose safe pendants” should be on a t-shirt. But nothing made me laugh harder than your deadpan look to camera at the word “tribal.” I love you, possibly even more than I love INXS. [Ha ha!! INXS 4-EVER! – PB]
