Pantone, the cool people of the Pantone universe of color, have announced that MARSALA is the Pantone Color of the Year.
There it is, looking actually kind of yummy, but don’t you be fooled!
The fact is, this color comes way too close to Dead Liver to look good with many complexions, and I haven’t seen one model of color wearing it in any of the fashion spreads.
Yea, skinny white lady. You look fine, especially with no head.
I love this print by Marc Jacobs. Chic! Grab this sort of thing if you see it; it’s SO hard to find sophisticated prints in rich colors.

I think for many of us, though, this is a snappy accent color best worn away from the face. Think shoes and bags and other accessories:

Women of all skin tones can rock this color below the waist — again, I caution that it can age or wash out many complexions. Of course this skirt is too short for the likes of us, Reverend Ladies:
Marsala would be beautiful in tights, huh? I’d wear them with navy or black or charcoal.
As ALWAYS with trends, you must interpret for yourself. Never blindly adopt a trend without working on it so that it suits you personally. Many a fashion disaster is avoided that way. For instance, you can go with marsala in a brighter version with more cherry in it to flatter your own coloring. This color is gorgeous on many people and avoids the purplish corpsey undertones of the Pantone version.
I myself will be insisting that all my Personal Butlers be clad in Marsala aprons when they bring me my tea in this year of Marsala.

Love the shoe options. Love this color. But seriously… Too short?? That thing is knee length!! We might need to have one of us tall girls to shopping with you. I’m not sure there ARE any better options out there for those of us with length of limb. I’d consider myself so lucky if that length was found. And if was in that color, it would be mine!

This is my favourite colour! I look best in this; if I knew how to post a picture, I would send one.
As a redhead I love this color. I look forward to stocking up on it while it is in style, especially all of those gorgeous accessories.
That way, next year when the neutral du jour is gray or taupe, I can still rock my redhead-friendly neutrals.
I’m with Bee – is that skirt really too short? I feel like a skirt below the knee can get really, really close to FrumpyTown, really, really quickly… I wouldn’t go much shorter than that, but I wear a lot of ministerial skirts that are just on or (sometimes) just above the knee. Am I being inappropriate? Help me, PeaceBang (you’re my only hope!)
[Yes, the skirt is too short if you look closely. See how it’s not really at the knee, but just above it? When she sits or bends over, she’s going to get into a Festival Of Inappropriate Sharing. Here’s a tip about frumpy skirt fit: get them taken in for width if you need to so there’s not a lot of floppy fabric. I do that a lot although I can’t afford to do it every time. It makes a huge difference in terms of frumpiness, and I can keep the length just at the knee. – PB]
