Angry About Pleated Pants

I just saw this on a friend’s Facebook page. He is a young man and he is angry, people. He is not going to remain silent ANY LONGER. I am going to share his outraged rant as he wrote it with typos and all because they are his authentic voice. And I hope you will snort coffee out of your nose as I did upon reading what he has to say:

After my third glass of wine ive become violently angry about pleats in mens pants!!!! All the guys that work at Barnes and Nobles either need a beat down or an intervention.. Right now im leaning towards a beat down but i think thats the wine talking.. Please please for the love of all thar is holy stop wearing pleats!! Where do you even get a pleated pants these day?? Do they even sell them anymore?? I mean really!! IM ANGRY!!

We all have our crusades, my friends. Please help my friend in his effort to eradicate the evil of pleated pants from our world. Bless you.

  1. PB, you’ve been this up in arms about clothing items, and it’s fun to see this passion in someone else! And he’s right!

  2. Four words:

    Not Just Men’s Pants.

(Seriously? “Let’s make the front of the pants pooch out over the Abundance of Figure!” is supposed to be “slimming?” Pull the other leg, it has got bells on…)

  3. Old enough to regret my purchases from the 1980s which I felt were quite stylish. A friend of mine called them “clown pants”. I get it now.

  4. I am a khaki, blue Oxford shirt, and blue blazer sort of southern Presbyterian. I suspect that all 8 or 10 pair of my khakis are pleated. Please explain why pleats are bad? Not arguing just curious.

  5. Maybe these people don’t have a loving eye in their lives? When I met my sweet honey 10 years ago, almost all his pants were pleated. I yelled, “get thee away, pleated pants!” and now he has none. but really – he just couldn’t see that they were bulgy and weird and covering up his slim physique.

  6. I have finally, finally convinced my husband that pleated pants do absolutely nothing for him… or anyone else for that matter. But they are still out there in many different stores. Sigh…

  7. Friends, Romans, Fashion Industry:
We order flat-front pants for my husband on AMAZON because a 36×38 is rarely to be found on racks, and when it is, PLEATS are always part of the package. 🙁 Even tall thin guys don’t need the added “pooch” of the pleat.

  8. Shortly after I married, my step-daughter and I staged a No-Pleated-Pants! intervention with my husband. It took both of us to convince him, but it took, and his closet has seen nary a pleat since.

  9. My husband only wears pleated dress pants. I’m sorry. I have tried to convince him that his pants are not helping. He dresses well in (almost) every other way. He even has good taste in my clothes. But, when he heads to the office, the pleats are always there.

I’ve considered throwing out his pants and buying him pleatless ones, but that would not go well at all. Any ideas on a pantervention?

  10. Ha! I feel similarly to him about the lack of warm clothing in freezing England. What *is* with really expensive coats made mainly of polyester, cardigans in acrylic etc. It’s cold! Have they not realised?

I don’t know *what* I’m going to do when my thick wool and cashmere coat gives up the ghost…
