Scraggly Northern Men – Eh, Church of Canada?

DEAR CANADIAN MALE COLLEAGUES,

YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED OUT!
You have been called out by a church consultant who travels widely among you who, during a meeting a few weeks ago, pulled me aside to ask if I might want to HELP our Canuck Revs., who are apparently looking like the Rev. Grizzly Adams, and not in a good way.

“That grunge thing is so 90’s,” he said. “And they’re not even doing it well. They just look sweaty and sloppy and scraggly. Do you think you could write about it?”

OF COURSE I SHALL WRITE ABOUT IT! THAT’S WHAT AUNTIE PEACEBANG IS HERE FOR!

(Admittedly, this guy is pretty hot, but you get the idea.)

Could this be you, dear brother? Could this be you in your hair and lint covered fleece pullover, your jeans with the frayed cuffs, your icky beard and oily skin? Or your plaid flannel shirt and dandruffy hair? Or just wrinkly T-shirt, parka and sad, faded cords? Your muddy, down-at-heel Merrill mocs?

Whatever the deal is, someone who has your best interests at heart felt it necessary to do an intervention.

Please show more respect for God’s people. Unless you’re a farmer and pastoring a church at the same time, you’ve got no reason to look like you just rolled in from under a haystack. And unless you’re auditioning for a bus-and-truck production of the new show “John the Baptist: The Musical!”* you shouldn’t resemble this man:
