It was so good to see my wonderful colleague Gail T. at General Assembly. How much do you love someone who’s like, “I KNOW I’m a fashion OUT” and who, when I go, “GAIL! A FRINGED PONCHO! NO WAY! Can I put you on BTFM?” responds, “I would be happy to be on your blog as a Fashion Don’t!” And we laughed and I got to take this photo:
Oh honey, no! Gail’s congregation is in Florida but that still doesn’t excuse the wearing of a batik poncho, mom pants and Clarke sandals. Because look how cute Gail is with her hair and her fun glasses and her bold lipstick and her shining spirit that you can see in her smile! She’s enough of a big character (she has a particularly wonderful laugh) that I would style her with bold accessories and decidedly unconservative clothes, but not this sort of schmatta.
But I’m not throwing Gail in the Naughty Corner and you know why? Because she has lost about 50 lbs. since I last saw her, which means that she has made a serious and difficult commitment to live more healthily and to be a good steward of the gift she is. That’s amazing and I’m so proud and admiring of her that I can’t give her too hard a time with the HIDEOUS FRINGED PONCHO THAT SHOULD NEVER BE WORN ANYWHERE BUT AS A BEACH COVER-UP. Girlfriend, I think you and me just need to go shopping and find some new looks for that new, slimmer physique that you have now.
Blessings on your ministry and extra huge hugs for being such a good sport. You’re terrific and I love you!
