I confess. I cannot break myself of the pigtail habit. I love pigtails – they’re easy in the summer, they’re cute, they’re … TOTALLY inappropriate for a 45 year-old woman.
But I wear them anyway in the summer – they are my go-to vacation hairdo (worn with a cotton scarf or hat), and that’s that. I’m running errands around town today and I’m likely to run into parishioners. So I added a slightly grown-up and interesting headband, earrings, make-up and glammy sunglasses, which makes the pigtails more, “Oh, that’s Vicki” and less “That middle-aged woman is cray-cray.”
Of course, for those who think Vicki is cray-cray anyway, it’s a moot point.
Have a cray-cray God-filled day, darlings!

I think your outfit is cute, great headband. It’s cooler in the summer with your hair off your neck. But I disagree with you that 45 is too old I think people make too big an issue about who is too old to wear what; not skin tight jeans etc. which my girls wear but I wouldn’t but pigtails as you are wearing them are OK as opposed to my photo of my 21 year old at age 7 with two pigtails on top of her head with red ribbons tied to them. She herself wouldn’t wear that she has alas bleached her beautiful brown hair & put bright purple streaks in it.
Sometimes the pigtails are the only way to get hair off the neck when you have a shortish haircut. On me even though pigtails might look young they look infinitely better than the “crazy cat lady” look that happens if I try to pull my hair into a ponytail.
I think it’s easier to get away with pigtails when you’re 45 than when you’re 25. They make you look like an infant when you’re 25, but just pleasantly eccentric or creative when you’re 45.
I’m 28 now and don’t wear them, but I plan to start wearing them regularly in my 40s!
[I’m going with you on this, Courtney, because I totally aspire to being pleasantly eccentric and creative! You just made my day!! – PB]
Sunglasses envy. I can’t wear the big, glammy ones – I look like a bug in them. But I lust for some nice shades. However, even at the 40% off sale at Lens Crafters, they top out at $261. Damn old lady bifocals. ::Muttering::
