One Of Those Days: WHAT AM-I-GONNA-WEAR?

This is one of those “holy cow, whadammigonnawear?” days.

This morning I had to stop and think before throwing on clothes to join a few volunteers at our local Stop& Shop (where I SWEAR they had an announcement that said, “Stop & Shop Shoppers! Stock up now for Ash Wednesday!!” — WWWHHHAAT?) to do a food drive for the local food pantry.

This is one of those occasions where you don’t want to be weirdly out of place and professional — you just want to be comfortable and maybe a step up from jeans and a sweatshirt. No one knows or cares if you’re a minister and you’re collecting food, not evangelizing. So I wore jeans, purple boots, and a brown casual coat by Maurice’s:

Well, I just looked like a commercial for Seasonal Affect Disorder like that, and I thought, “I don’t want to stand out but I don’t need to DEPRESS people, either.” So I added a scarf for a bit of kick:

The boots were comfy, I could load boxes fine, and that was all good.

Tonight we have our Church Talent Show. I’m singing “Someone’s Waiting For You” from “The Rescuers.” The last church social event I attended was last weekend — a Mardi Gras themed auction –and I WAY overdressed, but I would much rather be way overdressed than under, so c’est la vie.

So this time I’m like, “WHAT AM I GONNA WEAR?” Again, I decide to just have a bit of fun. So it’s black pants, black military-style jacket, pink floral top, and black wedges.

And I decided to wear big blingy earrings with pink in them, just for an extra kick. These are SO 2002:

Because the way I think about it, this is our church’s “American Idol” night, and everyone sings — from ages tiny to 90 — and I feel like I need to dress for a really awesome rock concert, because they’re all rock stars. And because I’m not a girl who goes to a lot of rock concerts (um 1-2 in the past five years?), this is what I got. And you work with what you got, babies.
