Maybe it’s been a long week or something, but I cracked up at Lynda W’s recent comment about the pockets on this skirt by J. Jill:

She called them “gorilla pockets.” As in, “What’s up with the gorilla pockets? Who do those pockets work for? Gorillas?”
Of course this immediately set up a hilarious visual for me of a long, hairy gorilla arm reaching into the pocket and I got a mad case of the guffaws. So thank you, Lynda, for coining the term GORILLA POCKETS.
Cripes, what could you even put IN a gorilla pocket that wouldn’t look like a huge tumor coming out of your thigh?

Gorillas need kleenex and breath mints, just like the rest of us! [Stop! Yer killing me! – PB]
a flexible stilleto?
It’s like a cell-phone pocket — which I have on my workaday pants — but *on a skirt*
I think they are to designate that this is meant to be a piece of clothing worn on the bottom half and not just a sack from the sack races with the bottom cut off for the feet to come out. Also why would women need functional pockets, aren’t we supposed to carry around giant purses for all that stuff (eye roll and a head shake)?
Well I would think they need snacks.
The pass for the parking garage?
This looks like the skirt equivalent of cargo pants.

They are similar to cargo pants which I recently wore on a trip to Vietnam. The lower pockets were perfect for my slim wallet and passport. Because they either used velcro or a snap and were within my line of vision, they felt safer than an open pocket or one on my backside.

between this and the denim jumpers in their catalog, I think we can officially declare that J Jill has given in to frump. Sad, I still love their classic cross front top. . . *sigh*
LOVE cargo pants, and I like cargo skirts, too. I hate carrying a purse, and I have to constantly remind myself that I am carrying a purse, so that I don’t accidentally leave it lying around (!).
Functional pockets are my friend.
Obviously they aren’t my friend on days when I have to look more formal, but otherwise, my life allows for a lot of cargo pants/skirts days at the moment.
