See the way that first skirt has all that extra material around the hips? Who needs that?
The other two are also cut really unflatteringly and are WAY too long. They have no shape, they’re blech, stay away.
Also bad — from the look of their catalogue, J. Jill is attempting to bring back the baggy overalls and overall-dress from the 80s. So very wrong! [My GOD, do I have to go on Jumper Alert again? *sigh* – PB]

I had considered emailing you earlier in the week to ask if you’d write a post on the sad devolution of the J.Jill catalog. I used to LOVE their clothes, absolutely adore them, but as the years have gone by they’ve drifted further and further toward an incoherent, defeated, washed out frumpdom. Their looks for spring this year are the worst yet, seemingly intended to induce a mass hallucination that overalls and vests are super cool.
I didn’t leave J.Jill, J.Jill left me.
[Yes! They always had really beautiful, simple, classic pieces that, if you wore a whole outfit of their stuff, would cause you to fall asleep, but as key wardrobe pieces were fab. I wonder if they got bought or something, because their fabrics seemed much cheaper to me the last time I popped into the store to look for ideas. – PB]
Joie – or perhaps Mennonite or Amish. You can’t see in the picture, but the bonnet sets the whole thing right up.
Also possibly Ultraconservative or Orthodox Jewish. They wear long skirts with sneakers a lot.
Yeah and no offense to any of those religions (thought I think they are not good to women but that’s just my personal opinion).
All right, I will have to get photographic evidence but I wear skirts like that first one all the time and I just know I look good in them, I just know it! They give me the look of an hourglass figure, with a fitted cardie buttoned through my waist. Please don’t hate on the long flowy skirts; I will always love them! (Not however a fan of the straight sneaker skirts).
[I’m sure you look great in your long skirts! But these look like BLECH! A fitted cardie would help these immensely, as would any shoe but a bloody flat SNEAKER. i checked them out online for the first time last week, and it was hard to imagine looking professional or feeling very good about myself in any of them. too bad.
I’ve been wondering where the Pentecostal women around here get their denim skirts. Now I know! Never a good look, especially with the long hair (often graying) hanging down the back.
