Peppery Num-Num

Gentlemen!

I have just run across this delicious-sounding scent by Molton Brown and am wondering if any of you have tried it:

It’s Black Pepper. Some of my very favorite scents have a black pepper note in them and I think it’s Sssssexy.
But of course, you know, it could be ssssstanky. Do write in and tell.

And if not that, what are you wearing lately that you love? I haven’t gotten over Gucci Pour Homme myself (I always spray a bit on myself when I’m in the fancier stores where they have a tester) but as long as it’s not that Axe garbage (yish!), I’m open to suggestions.
I feel that I have been neglecting my boys lately: what do you need to know about? How are we doing out there, fellas?

  1. Well there are always hair and beard issues, since many on our colleagues seem to want to look like Santa Claus on vacation…

I’m not sure what the santas and I would do with man-scents…

  2. Love the Santa whiskers if it means saying, “No” to scents.

    Lil,
who missed Christmas with her extended family because they wanted the scented candles more than they wanted her company. 🙁

  3. It’s a bit manly smelling, PB. My husband loves it, and I love it on him. I have never liked scented anything, but I love MB. I choose Molton Brown Paradisiac Pink Pepperpod. I also like Wilde Faeriefleur and Ultrasmooth Coco de Mer.

I must warn you, Molton Brown is VERY addictive, and $26 a bottle. But it lasts a long time, and will make you very happy.

  4. I tend toward fragrances from L’Occitane.

Generally, a good year-round fragrace is L’Occitane Eau du Toilette:
    Top Note: Lavendcer, Black pepper
    Middle Note: Nutmeg, Cinnamon
    Base Note: Tonka Bean, Musk

During Winter, I wear Eau des Baux.
    Top Note: Pink pepper, Cardamom
    Middle Note: Cyprus, Incense
    Base Note: Vanilla, Tonka Bean
(The aristocracy of Baux believe themselves descended from one of the Magi, so it’s a liturgically correct scent!)

During Spring/Summer, i wear Green Tea Eau du Toilette.
    Top Note: Bitter Orange, Orange
    Middle Note: Green Tea Extract
    Base Note: Musk, Cedar, Thyme.

I routinely receive positive comments about these fragrances.

  5. I’m sorry Lil. Sometimes families are jerks.

I would like to find something that smells awesome on a man that doesn’t close up my lungs. For candles that usually means cinnamon or apple, nothing heavy or flowery. What does that compute to in cologne? Actually, I would like something for myself as well.

  6. I’ve recently become sensitive/allergic to fragrances. So much so that a whif of some things causes me to go into a sneezing fit. 🙁 As a result, I’ve been afraid to even smell fragrances at the store. I was just at the mall today, and I had to quickly walk out of some stores because I could feel a sneeze attack coming on if I didn’t leave. Grrr.

  7. I bought my husband Dolce & Gabanna’s One Gentlemen for Christmas and it smells spicey & sexy. He also wears David Beckham Instinct – yum!

  8. I know it’s wrong — but I really want to sniff Peregrinato.

My beautiful best friend made a black pepper jasmine blend her personal signature scent. She’s preaching with the Angel Choir now, but the scent memory makes me very happy and sad at the same time.

And she’s the type of gal who would have written to Peregrinato to ask for an old t-shirt.

  9. Your sneeze is my anaphylaxis. There is no safe cologne or perfume or scent if you are allergic to it. Makes every outing roulette-like.

  10. I have been sniffed (with great decorum) many times, worry not!

Now I totally want to try some of the products from Portland General Store…especially the Whiskey and the Tobacco.

  11. Peacebang, you MUST know about Lush, right? The hugely expensive, wonderfully delicious, and hugely addictive bathing shoppe? It is one of my great luxuries that keeps me sane; sometimes on the hard days, Lush is what gets me INTO the shower in the first place. A little self-pampering; it’s absolutely priceless.

But!! Even if we can’t afford their day-to-day stuff, we can enjoy the luxury of a $5 bath bomb. An hour of alone time, hot water, wine, a good book, and a little fizzy delicious-smelling and creamy water?? Heaven on earth.

  12. re the whiskey aftershave: It both does and doesn’t smell like whiskey. It doesn’t have that turpentine alcohol smell, but it’s very woody. It mostly just smells like a glorious potpourri of manliness to me. 🙂
