Cardigan Madness!

Cardigans, cardigans, cardigans! We love them, they’re a fantastic wardrobe staple, and there are oodles of styles to choose from! However, some of those styles go by deceptively cute or appealing names. And they ain’t. Let PeaceBang expound.


This “Boyfriend Cardigan?” Think of it rather as the “These Were Ugly, Unflattering and Ill-Fitting in the 1980’s And They Still Are!” Avoid like that ex-boyfriend from the 1980’s — you don’t want either of them back.


This was listed as a “classic cardigan.” Methinks not. This is what PeaceBang would call the “Classic Granny Cardigan.” Instant Geriatric. Don’t age yourself with one of these, even if you are geriatric. You can do better.


This isn’t doing better. It is hideous. The color is hideous, the cut is hideous. And look at her Enormous Hair! Is she going to a Bon Jovi concert later? Whoever styled this was in love with 1983. You, however, need to communicate to the public that you like being in 2010.


This is interesting, has texture and energy. By all means do something like this instead of that wretched “boyfriend” thing that hates your shape.


Here’s a long cardigan style that doesn’t hate your shape. (But eek, that color! Does that look good on anyone??)

What’s in a name? Don’t fall for it. Does it fit? Is it flattering? Is it dated, frumpy and just plain ugly? If so, they could call it the Miracle Cute, Pretty, Affordable, Sophisticated Cardigan That Looks Super Duper on Every Human Being On the Planet and you should still save your money and walk away.

  1. Now my challenge is finding one of those cardigans in my (extra huge) size. I may have to fire up the knittin’ sticks. In which case I’ll have it in about two or three years.
    I do know someone who would look good in that bright yellow cardigan. But hers is a really exotic beauty. Sigh.

  2. Start knitting! I have finished six cardis within the last 12 months, and have three more on the needles now. Mine are not like any of those listed, but they are all unique, fitted, flattering, great colours, luscious fibres. Go for it!

  5. Went to Target yesterday and they have loads of cute 2010 cardis with great colors – sure to brighten up any day or complexion! Also, thanks for the tip on Define A Lash – picked up one to try out! It’s the little things, isn’t it?

  6. Yes, much to my amazement, that color does look passably good on me… a Prescriptives rep told me to get into yellows and greens, and she wasa right. Yes, the more orangy ones are better, but if you have the right skin undertones, this is okay.

  9. I’ve got a couple of Lavold’s books S J. I like them, but I haven’t gotten too excited at the prospect of doing everything off charts and measurements (A problem with some of the Scandinavian designers). I like good instructions! This is my hobby, and I don’t really want to tear my hair out. It’s supposed to be relaxing! 🙂
