What PeaceBang is LOVING this fall is that the big “statement necklace” is back.
(That’s a real fashion term, sweethearts, PB did not make it up.)
PeaceBang, who has returned to Weight Watchers largely (pun intended, heh heh) so that she can actually FIT INTO HER CLOTHES and not be relegated to wearing BELTED SHEETS in public, is all about A Bit Of Bling this season. While sticking to very basic garments such as black pants, solid sweaters and boots, she is adding the zing with bling through big earrings, cocktail rings, smudgy eyeshadows, and lots of necklaces piled on sort of like this:
It’s fun. It makes me feel girly and elegant. I can mix and match what I’ve already got (which is an art of its own and takes some practice) and it certainly dresses up ordinary outfits.
This is high couture. These, however, are not. It is American Eagle for less than $20:

A statement necklace is not the thing for you gals who refuse to touch make-up; it’s got glam factor to it that does NOT match a totally bare face and blah hair. That’s what I love about it: after I’ve dressed and put on a big shiny ring and big, bold necklace or two or three, I feel inspired to put some effort into my make-up. That’s one thing to take note of when purchasing a necklace because of that glam factor that necklaces give. Five minutes later, I feel less like a dumpy old broad and more like I want to feel: someone who made an effort to participate in the autumnal beauty of Nature by stepping up her own game a little bit.

I love these necklaces on other people, but I always feel scared to wear them myself. At 5’1″ would a bg necklace wear me instead of the other way around?
I want to get a bunch of long necklaces and layer them like Michelle Obama.

Strange Attractor and our more down-to-earth sisters will find that flea markets and yard sales are your friends for layerable jewelry. Just look for small beads and plain chains, and have fun!

A nice way to make a regular necklace into a “statement” one is to wear it backwards and fasten it with a brooch. Oh, it was a glorious day when the light dawned and I realized I could pin my pins to other jewelry. [FUN! How about some photos? – PB]

I LOVE that statement necklaces are back in so I can stock up, because they are NEVER out of style in my book. A statement necklace can make a simple or blah outfit or dress a WOW outfit or dress.
I would look at the ones at Anthropologie. They are waaay too expensive but alot of them could inspire your own DIY project. I also love esty.com for the same reason, plus you can find bargans and support artists.
BTW I LOVE the Miss Conduct’s idea about using broaches–how fresh and creative!
