PeaceBang is Wicked Gratified

(You know that “wicked” is a Boston-are regionalism that means “very,” don’t you?)

ANYHOO, PeaceBang is WICKED psyched this evening because she just got a phone call from a friend for whom she did a little make-over this afternoon. We met to take a walk this aft and my friend told me that she had been invited to a formal event tonight. Of course I was immediately thrilled, knowing that we could talk “dress-up” and that she would graciously allow me to get all Tim Gunn on her.

WHAT FUN! We picked out a cute cocktail dress of mine for her, and a lovely fitted blazer with fancy jet buttons from Italy. I did her make-up (she says that I have more make-up on my vanity table than she has ever owned in her entire life, cumulatively) and set her up with a hair clip and pins so that she could do an easy up-do at home. I sent her out the door with a clutch purse, a pair of earrings and a cocktail ring and strict instructions NOT to wear pantyhose but to shave her legs and moisturize them for some healthy shine.

Cut to five minutes ago when I got a phone call from my pal who said that her family did not even recognize her when she walked in! Her father got on the phone to say, “Guess what? You’re not getting the clothes back!” and to tell me that he actually did not recognize his own daughter this evening.
He thanked me. And that just totally made my day. A huge part of this transformation is that my friend has recently lost over 40 lbs., and can I just say that it feels like being a FAIRY GODMOTHER to glam her up to show off all that hard work and discipline.

:::doing a little dance:::::

Also in the Totally Fun Department: we are doing a new photo directory at church and one of my parishioners suggested that I do women’s make-up before their photo sessions for a $20 contribution to the church. Oh my gosh, I would LOVE to!! I would never suggest it myself, of course, but if people want me to make them up I would have such a blast!

I can’t wait to see photos!

  1. So are you going to post pix of your friend? [I hope she’ll let me but we’ll have to see… She said that she did take a photo before she left her house, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. – PB]

  2. That’s a fun idea about the photo directory. The church I went to growing up did one, and it was nice to have a family photo of not just me, my sister, and our parents, but our granny and aunt as well. Unfortunately, my current church just does a tiny black and white print directory.

  3. Right you are, Gabriel! I got the chance to glam up one of my buds not long ago, and it was SO good to have such fun!

  4. Good for her! What do you recommend for ugly white legs? [I love the Jergen’s moisturizer that comes with a bit of color — it builds a tan gradually and adds a touch of shimmer. That’s all you need for autumn. Others I know SWEAR by the Sally Hansen spray-on stockings but I’ve never tried that. Do a “search this blog” for leg tanner and see what comes up under product recommendations, because I know I’ve reviewed a few more. – PB]
