Work-Out Clothes And Worn-Out Clothes

Oh, PeaceBang is a Mopey Girl.
It’s dreary outside, and she just did the dreary task of ordering a sports bra and yoga pants online. I tried a new vendor called “Always For Me” (which I believe is a euphemism for “I Hope This Will Fit My Chub”) and there goes $83.

That’s what I call “NO FUN SHOPPING.”

But you know what else is no fun?
Yoga pants that are so worn that they’re practically see-through — and starting to get holy in the literal sense–and a sports bra that comes unhinged because the back is so frayed. Wearing things like that is depressing and even dangerous. Who wants to be walking the dog in public when the pants finally shred to bits? I had started wrapping a hoodie around my waist in case I caught my pants on a briar and had a wardrobe malfunction, and that’s just no good.

Another thing that you really have to bite the bullet and spend money on, sweethearts, is a good pair of athletic shoes. You just can’t wear those for years and miles and except them to serve you well. It’s like this: I just learned that my insurance program no longer covers chiropractic care. So what’s the smarter investment: $80 for a pair of good athletic shoes or $100 for one chiropractic visit?

My jeans, aside from being too tight and way out of fashion and I decided to sell it on Flyp. Shopping for jeans is one of the least enjoyable activities I can think of, so believe me — I put it off for as long as I can. None of my pants except for one black pair fit me well these days, but I figure I can work some camouflage, wear skirts, and just hang tough while I whittle down some. The jeans, however, are in no condition to last me very much longer no matter how well I may fight the battle of the bulge.

Oh, GEEEEEEEEZ. This is SO HARD!
Let’s have a group whine.

  1. I’m not much of a woman, I guess–I dislike shopping for clothes, shop for jeans only as a last resort, and HATE HATE shopping for shoes. PB, I have high standards too–I demand that the wretched things FIT.

  2. I feel your pain. I hate to shop, and why are plus size clothes so expensive. I mean, it’s not that much more fabric for a 3x than a 1x, I sew so I know. And don’t even get me started on shoes…I wear a 12 http://WWW…I might as well wear the boxes.

If you haven’t already found them, I love the right fit jeans that have come out now. For the first time in my life my jeans fit my hips and my waist. Several retailers carry them, and I’ll let you find them so it doesn’t look like a paid endorsement 🙂

Here’s a wish and a prayer for good shopping.

  3. I hear you. I had to go buy two pair of jeans about a month ago after my one pair died a holey death. But I have to say that now that I’ve got jeans that fit and are in good repair, I feel better about that half of my body. Now I’ve just got to go out and find some turtlenecks and other faunter season shirts that will layer well.

  4. Check out a web-based outfit called Title 9 Sports for sports bras and undies. They rate the bras with a row of barbells (more barbells, more support). It’s a women-owned company, so they test and review all the bras. Any search engine should find this for you.

For jeans, I use Wrangler Ultimate Riding jeans from http://www.Sheplers.com. This is a Western wear store, so the prices are more reasonable. There is a line of Wrangler plus-size jeans, too. Many
bootcut, which are supposed to be flattering.
Dark denim, too. (However, I am not quite a
    plus size.)

  5. Is it just me, or do the jeans seem to fit great when I try them on in the store, but as soon as I get home they either seem frumpy or too tight or something? Maybe I have Fitting Room Blindness. I don’t know, but this is a real problem with me. [No honey, it ain’t you. Dressing rooms are cramped, it’s hard to tell if something REALLY fits, the mirrors are angled to make us look thinner, and the lighting is atrocious. Keep your receipts! – PB]

  6. Target has a new line of denim that is very nice – Merona Fit Solutions No Gap Waist Jean – Dark Wash. Good quality denim, mid-rise, some stretch – all in all, flattering and only $25 bucks. I bought a pair, and then took my mom (who is plus size) to try some and she loved them.
[Well hell’s bells! Perfect timing, because a new Target is opening in town tomorrow! And I really like Merona. It’s a good brand for my “figure.” Thanks so much! – PB]
