All over Athens this past spring, I saw women in adorable silver wedge sneakers worn with snappy little outfits that were totally office-appropriate (blazers with nice jeans, scarves, big “statement” bags, etc.).
WHY oh WHY can’t I find any of those little sneakers here!!??
whine!!!
I found a pair of pretty silver sneakers yesterday but they were so flat-footed they didn’t have that chic look at all. The design was too Keds-like to work. What I want is a sophisticated shoe: not all athletic-y with the bumps and treads, but not so whispy as to look like a mocassin, either. I want a silver sneaker with a small wedge and a streamlined, but substantial foot. Laces aren’t necessary – a zipper will do — but laces are best.
I saw these all over Greece — why oh whine didn’t I buy some there?
Any ideas? I’ve looked through Zappos under silver/sneaker/wedge and all the search engines. I know these shoes are out there because I’ve SEEN them. Do we have any readers in Athens?
This is as close as I’ve been able to get, and they’re kind of meh. I want something with more of a wedge and a snappier, less runner-shoe design.

Cute! Keep us updated if you manage to find some, cause I could definitely use a pair.
Nike Shox Rivalry and Puma Speed Cat were both made in silver for the European market. They appear to be discontinued, but some are still available through Priceminister.com and Amazon.de although shipping is likely to be dear. Were either of these what you had in mind?
Have you tried Skechers? I saw a woman in the grocery store just now who was wearing what might be the kind you describe. Her pant hems covered a lot of the shoe (and I wasn’t going to ask her to pull them up so I could see the whole thing, on account of Miss Conduct doesn’t want to get a reputation as some kind of weird public foot fetishist) but I *did* see they were Skechers! [I saw some silver Sketchers and they’re cute, but still not QUITE… and don’t Sketchers hurt? Or are they better made now? – PB]
I’m just back from one meeting in Greece and heading to Athens for another this week. I didn’t notice this footwear trend, but shall look for it. Any requests?!
(By the way, I love my Mellissinos sandals and the long chat in French I had there while they were being made! Thanks for that tip, way back.) [Ooooh, so jealous!! Just keep a look out for the gorgeous silver or bronze shoes that look like a cross between a soft little bootie and a sneaker. They have a little bit of a wedge heel and are very classy; no obvious treads, just a flat rubber sole. I like the lace-ups but I think I saw some with zippers, too. Snap photos if you find anything that fits the bill! – PB]
