PeaceBang has noticed that PLAID is all the rage for this fall, and she wants to encourage you to get out those old plaid pieces and MAKE THEM WORK for your professional wardrobe.
Two things about plaid.
1. A little goes a long way.
2. Plaid needs to be styled to work for your professional attire. In other words, one cannot just slap on a plaid lumberjack shirt over a pair of shapeless slacks and be done with it. That would be a fast train to Frumpsville.

Darling plaid pieces!! I’m not mad about the skirts but on the right person they could be ador’. But see how these pieces are all about fit and detail? They do half the work for you.
Not that we’re getting this rock n’ roll about it, but just a reminder that a fun shoe can dress up a comfortable outfit. Look at the proportions and fit here: see? I don’t recommend skinny pants for any of us on the job, but the point is that this outfit FITS. Plaid is no excuse to drown the body in fabric.
Plaid can be creative. Jennifer Aniston looks SHARP (not so much the fit of her shirt, but her elegant hair and polished make-up), and I LOVE that jacket that Tori Spelling’s wearing.
Guys, you’re not allowed to just slap on a lumberjack shirt and leave it at that, either. Get a gander at this young starlet. He’s got it right. For pastor fellas, I’d wear a charcoal T or fitted sweater underneath rather than the classic white:
I love plaid but don’t really like the way plaid clothes look on me. However, plaid accessories are great! Plaid shoes, a fun scarf, a belt (not all at once, of course!) are some of the ways I will work plaid into my wardrobe this fall.
hmmm the plaids look great on the models and starlets. they are generally tall and thin. I am thinking that I, a plus size gal, also “vertically challenged”, needs to stay away from big bold plaids or risk looking like a walking horse blanket! but for the young slender types, rock the plaids! [Me, too. I’m not getting anywhere NEAR plaid. – PB]
Good lord, I had no idea plaids were in this season. Yay! I will be on the look-out with your words in mind. Thank goodness I have someone from the east coast to clue me in up and over here in the Pac NW … where plaid has actually never been “out” – but is still grungy.
I think a plaid scarf would be the perfect foray into this trend. Fits all body types, adds just the touch of fashion savvy.
I’m with Louise on the plaid scarf… I guess I wore too many “boyfriend plaid flannel shirts” in college. They are the epitome of casual. I will consider a nicely tailored plaid skirt, however… or maybe plaid pants if the plaid is not teeny.
My children refuse to wear plaid. REFUSE. And the tops for teens are so blinkin cute. PAH.

I tried a few on in the stores the other day–I think cut of the garment couples with the direction and scale of the plaid really determine whether you will look like Paul Bunyon or not. Plus it needs to be belted, put with some nice dark jeans and cute boots and really cute jewlery to soften it up…that’s just my two cents!
Also, where did you find the picture of those cute rain boots–I am looking for a pair for the fall to keep my feet dry and still be fashionable!
