I was just doing a little pants shopping on-line to see what’s out there, you know, and I come across this term on the Lane Bryant site:
“Porkchop pockets”
Porkchop pockets!!!?? What gal in her right mind is going to associate “pork chop pockets” with “flattering fit?” Why don’t they just call them “bulging thigh pockets” and be honest about it?
A porkchop pocket sounds like a very cute item I might get for my dog to carry bones around in. It does not sound like something I want to feature on my rotund lower half.
Although if I kept ACTUAL pork chops in my porkchop pockets, I bet I’d be super popular with my dog, and every dog in town.

Here in Southern California there is a store called the “Dress Barn”. The name just makes me things of cows. I refuse to shop there.

There is a technical term for those types of pockets, and it’s not pork-chop. Next time I’m looking at a pattern with them I’ll get the real term for you.
I cannot tell from the picture exactly what the pockets look like. I am guessing that they are on the outside of the pants. If my guess is correct then I have some pants like that which are ONLY for around the house. I’m not sure why I bought them other than they probably were cheap.

I had to do a search to find a picture of the “porkchop” pockets on washed denim, so I could see them. It looks like the upper opening cutout is about the same as normal jeans, but the so-called porkchop emphasis is the topstitching through the pants front that curves around the pocket bag. In a pair of jeans, the pocket is normally left hanging
loose on the inside (except in some of the so-called tummy-control styles in which they extend pocket fabric over to the fly opening and stitch it down).
I don’t the the visual attention called to the pockets by this stitching (or the front pocket on
the outside) gives the appearance you are looking
for on this blog.
