The dish is, gang, that I’m real serious with a fella, but I can’t give you any more details than that because while there is a mutual feeling of having found “the one” (a phrase which still makes me barf, but it’s the easiest way to explain what’s going on), this is a time of finding out how it will all work. We are dealing with a very skittish spinster here, and I want to make sure he really means it when he claims that all he wants in life now is to be a one-man Ministerial Love and Support Committee.
Let me just say that this is a #1 super numero uno awesome dude. You know how I know? Because not only does he have 100% of the qualities you would list if you were looking for a great man, he let me persuade him to change his hair product use (it was a struggle, but I knew I’d prevail if I whined enough), and to start using skin products and to pick out all his new winter clothes. If anything could win the heart of PeaceBang, it is this. Because it takes a real man to admit that it wouldn’t be a bad thing if he started moisturizing.

Just be sure to tell him he looks like his favorite superhero after he endures the minor cosmetic changes. Ashton Kutcher was quoted as saying men don’t like to be told they’re “cute” – they prefer things like, “now you look like James Bond” or “that hot football player.”
I used to always tell my sweetie he looked cute, and then switched to various superheros, lumberjacks, and other He-men – it really works!
I’m so happy for you!
PB, he’s a very nice looking gentleman. Best wishes for the relationship!
You don’t know me, but count me as a big fan who is simply delighted for you! Enjoy every minute. He sounds like a keeper.
Amen, sister! Moisturizing is the one and only thing I nag my husband about. Even he can see and feel the difference when he does!
Let me second the “He’s cute!” comment. Not that you need our approval on his looks, but damn, girl, he’s CUTE! 😀
Please please please write about internet dating or singles clubs or the Holy Spirit or whatever it is that might allow single clergy to follow in your lovable footsteps.
Congrats!
[Sweetie, I have done all that internet dating and everything forever and ever. I met my guy while on vacation at a karaoke bar, seriously. Called Porky’s Last Stand.I kid you not. I walked in, he was singing “It Had To Be You,” and when I went to the bar to try to flirt with him, he TURNED HIS BACK ON ME and behaved like a jackass. It’s a good thing my friend Rali said, “I think he’s just shy” or I never would have stuck around to exchange any banter at all with him. We attribute this whole thing to an act of the Jewish Ancestors Mafia. Also, it was the full moon. But seriously, I have been praying for this partner for years, frightened and hesitant as I was to find him. He, meanwhile, was blithely unaware that his life was missing anything. We met, it felt like home, we both felt it, and he drove 1500 miles up Route 95 a week later with all his worldly goods to put his money where his mouth is. It has been totally happy. re’s a lot of “Mr. and Mrs. joking around that isn’t really joking. So how did this happen? A lot of prayer, and very hard and painful work of finally letting go of false idols of love (i.e., expecting wounded or profoundly limited people to be there for me in this way and ignoring the evidence that they never will be). May love come to you, my friend. I hope this one is the real deal for me! – PB]
Mazeltov!! You know you’ve found at least a primary candidate for {ahem} “the one” when they actually think being a minister means you might have depth, intelligence, personality and kindness – and want to be around someone like that.
As for the partner intro, I can say that when your beau/belle does want to meet folks, it can be a plus to be “the partner” – people will at least be more likely to introduce themselves and not let him/her be a wallflower.
And there is a benefit to the different churches idea – at least some of the time. Mine is of late talking about attending a different church sometimes, since it’s wonderful for him to just be there to worship and not feel obliged to a) scope out and report on the crowd’s reactions to my shtick, b) tactfully field personal questions about us, or c) think about whatever church politics are in the works, featuring the people with whom he is worshiping. That said, I love that he is there with and for me. It rocks.
This is excellent dishin’! And thanks for including a picture – ya know, I had my suspicions when you posted that pretty picture of you with (now I know) SweetieBang on vacation. I love this kind of news!! Blessings!
I thought the picture was one of those celebrity photos you post, but the comments make me think this is the actual guy. Very warm smile & handsome look.
What a great testimonial to the power of prayer!
[This is the actual guy! He heard what you said and was very blushing. – PB]
V. handsome man. Great eyes. I wish you both lots of happiness.
He has darling lips, too. 🙂
Possibly belated, but just in case: for those of us who share our lives with gentlemen who came from warmer climates and/or were in VERY casual professions (my sweetie’s prior work wardrobe included gramicci pants and a full hiking backpack), what pieces would you get him and how many of each? Do real men wear undershirts?
[Oh Bee, this was our exact situation when Greg first got here! He arrived with a wardrobe of shorts, denim shirts and flip flops!! We went to Macy’s and got him a few pairs of khakis, some nice jeans, two sports jackets (both tweedy with some cool detailing), some dressy T-shirts to wear under the jackets, and some fleece tops. We later found some lightweight sweaters with open collar to wear with his sports jackets, because he’s just not the guy who’s going to wear a dress shirt and tie (belly too big for it to be flattering , for one thing, and it’s just not “him.”) We also got him a few cool shirts to wear untucked, which I think are very sexy. They’re dark and striped and make him look like the swarthy, guitar-playing babe he is. Just think through what kinds of events, social and professional, your honey will be attending and acquire a few pieces that help him feel like he’ll be appropriately dressed for those. Make shopping fun and romantic, kiss him a lot in the dressing room, be patient with his pickiness, call him a hot babe when he tries on something you love, encourage him to get colors he wouldn’t ordinarily choose, and help make sure that things FIT. My experience with men is that they often think things fit that don’t. Have fun!!- PB]
