I am doing a wedding for good theatre friends who have been together for 28 years and who are, frankly, entirely fabulous men. They will be wearing grey tuxes.
Given that the crowd will be jam packed full of extremely gorgeous and creative people who know me as a performer and not a minister, I have had to think more than usual about what I am going to wear to officiate in (in consultation with the grooms, of course).
I decided that since they were wearing grey, I would wear my black suit and a stole over that, a silk shell and some fantabulous shoes. Great earrings, manicure, yadda yadda.
Because I will be changing into a PAHTY DRESS after the nuptials are concluded, I wanted to try everything on and strategize my accessories, hair and make-up. Boy, am I glad I did.
Did you know that dry cleaning can shrink your clothes!!?!?!!?
Yes, it can.
My best black blazer, which always fit snugly (but perfectly), suddenly felt like a different fabric – stiffer and less yielding. What was a snug but elegant fit now feels just that much too snug, and I have had to go to Option B, which is my grey suit, unless I can wear my black blazer around the house and get the fabric to relax with my body heat.
At any rate, I am so glad that I didn’t discover this beautiful little situation while dressing at the venue! Weddings are nerve-wracking enough with the ceremony, the details, the travel, the since of excitement and joy, and the responsibility.
Do a dress rehearsal. It’s well worth the time and the agony it may save you later. Kiss, kiss.
I have had good luck with asking my dry cleaner to steam/press something that got too small in the dry cleaning process…..mine did it for free but even a small fee would be worth it….sounds like some chemical may have stayed in the fabric so a steaming a good thing?
