And The Oscar Goes To

Did you see all the stars walk the red carpet, kiddies? I did, on that religious holiday for all movie fans and pop culture mavens. I watched the terrible, boring telecast during which Neil Patrick Harris went from “eh, he kind of irritates me” on my Celebrity Likeability Scale to “Ugh, can’t stand him.”
I used to love NPH so much, but then I saw his mask slip a few too many times and I saw a nasty, self-serious twerp. Don’t like him; won’t watch him in anything except the Tony’s, a hosting gig he handles with real aplomb.

I’ll make a few observations here, but if you really want to dive into the fashion, I encourage you to head over to TLo Blog for a fantastic round up.

FIRST OF ALL, anyone who wants to make fun of Lady Gaga’s outfit will find no encouragement here. I thought she re-branded herself beautifully and her red gloves were fabulous.

BRAVA, Gaga!!

I loved Meryl Streep’s outfit: it’s the kind of thing I imagine wearing if I ever had to get that fancy. The jacket doesn’t match, but I love the line, the “I’m Meryl F-ing Streep and I’m Going To Be Comfortable” elegance, and her. I just love her face. That is one of the great faces.

A lot of people hated Naomi Watts’ Armani and I thought it was one of the only really interesting looks of the night. I didn’t mind the black bandeau, either.

Here’s wild child Jared Leto in a powder blue tux and scraggly Jesus hair, which just irritates me NO END. You’re wearing a tux? You GROOM YOURSELF, CHILD.

He can do it, too. He managed to clean up beautifully for the Critic’s Choice Awards, didn’t he?

Don’t ever pose with corny thumbs up or finger guns, clergy, please! Let Jared’s doofiness be your warning.

The crush of the night for me was Mr. Oyewolo. He so deserved a nomination for his magnificent work as Martin Luther King in “Selma.” My God. After hearing his super sexy British accent I had to kind of fan myself:

Oprah and Patricia Arquette should also send their stylists a special bonus for the flawless shapewear. However, there is no excusing Miss Arquette’s ratty hair. None!!

I do believe this is a Prada tux on Common and I do believe he is wearing it PERFECTLY.

I love Julianne Moore and I loved her hair and make-up with a fierce adoration. The dress wasn’t perfect but I liked it on her. She’s a quirky one, that Julianne. She usually wears bohemian sacks with big, clunky black sandals or gladiator booties on the runway. She was incandescent, if you ask me. What a fulfillment for those of us who have been wowed by this lady’s work for a long time.

Here are the acting winners, all looking very happy, and good for them! Eddie Redmayne (Best Actor) is gorgeous in a blue Alexander McQueen tux. I’ve appreciated J.K. Simmons as a character actor for a long time and was thrilled to see him get recognition he deserves.
