Check-In: General Assembly And Such

Memorial Day service! Annual meeting! Preparing for the shift in summer schedule! Writing blog posts in response to the Santa Barbara massacre. Planting flowers, walking the dog, trying to remember to eat my veggies. Assembling a summer reading list: what ought to be on it?

Feeling tired, pigeons. I am aware that some of you are starting CPE units this week and would love to hear from you. Where are you going to be? What do you need to review? How can I help? If you keyword search “CPE” here, you will find a rich archive of advice from Auntie PB and her wonderful readers, so do check that out.

I have a post in the works about sunscreen, but that will have to wait. My post on rape culture really drained me, but it also gave me back life and faith and energy after having felt so totally flattened by the horrific underbelly of American misogyny revealed by Elliot Rodger. It’s not like I didn’t know it was there and don’t experience it constantly. But there was something so devastating about the combination of Memorial Day and its solemn obligations to remember our war dead and reflect on our history as a nation, and the manifesto of this sick kid, whose mental illness progressed in the climate of objectification of women that never seems to get better. Sleepless nights and lots of anguished prayers to God.

I will be attending the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly in Providence, RI from June 24 through that weekend. Holler if you want to get together for a personal conversation or a group meal or drinks or something. The conference is pretty much local for me and I’m not scheduled to present anything, so I am free and easy, bright and breezy.

Take care. Go be beautiful.

  1. Weird that you don’t have a ton of comments already. I’d love to get together at GA. Just us, or with a group would be fine. I’ll message you my phone # and how ’bout you do the same? See you soon!
