I was trying for a messy bun today, but I just managed to make a mess of my hair. WHY IS IT SO HARD, LORD?
I brought the dog to the office today. Big mistake. He has been whining incessantly at the door of my study — a low-grade, high-pitched whine like he’s expecting Elijah to make his late entrance. It sounds like a tea kettle getting ready for go full boil and it’s making me homicidal.
I haven’t fixed myself a proper meal in days. Due to smoothies and green powder and other healthy additives I know I’m not malnourished (ha!) but the lack of nourishing, sit-down actual food is probably making me slightly tetchy, too.
Starbucks Refreshers are probably not as good for me as pure water, and Pepperidge Farm goldfish are not an adequate dinner.
I think Miss PeaceBang is going to take herself, her whining dog and her nasty headache home for a break before tonight’s meeting.
And how are YOU, tootsie pies?

Experiencing cranky winter thoughts myself…Parish House furnace is literally frozen, which means other office equipment is, as well (e.g. copier); it is 20 degrees in my office and all my plants have keeled over; perhaps the cold weather will manage to kill the mold and mildew climbing up the walls. Sometimes I am WAY OVER the whole, “but its a beautiful historic building” — when can we just call it an old building that needs more money and attention than we have time to give it and move on. Also, I invited the City Manager to today’s Ministerium meeting, to ask him where/how the ministers of our community might be effective in breaking the cycle of poverty/depression/greed (by slumlords)/addictions and the news about the actual state of things was overwhelming. Essentially we learned that the City has been in slow and steady decline (in terms of population and resources) since its 1950s heyday. I need a long time in prayer tonight…hopefully God doesn’t mind if I’m praying from beneath my electric blanket, as we’re still at frigid temps and it has now started snowing again. [I’m praying with you, dear. I’m praying, first of all, that you will NOT return to work where there’s mold and mildew on the walls. Please do not. And I am praying that your congregation will be able to move boldly into a future where it can have a relevant ministry that isn’t hot-tied and gagged by a building that no longer serves its needs. “When the time comes to let it go, to let it go.” – Mary Oliver – PB]
I laughed out loud at this–mostly because I’m sitting here eating Wheat Thins out of the box for lunch.
Yeah, it’s tough in January, isn’t it? I bet it’s especially tough for you guys having such cold weather (it’s just raining a lot in England so far this winter).
I’m trying to get back into a healthier state, but it’s haaaard work when I crave huddling inside with warming comfort food and a glass of wine instead of water, exercise and vegetables!
