I just want a pair of WARM, comfortable boots that I can wear to a day of ministry and then go for a walk on the beach in. I have pretty boots, I have warm snow boots, I have motorcycle lug sole boots, I have cowboy boots. None of those are good for walking.
Any suggestions for this old lady who wants to get out in the cold and move her bod and not get cold or achey feet doing so?

I am fond of Sorels for warmth. For winter waterproof fashion I love La Canadienne. I figure they know about winter in Canada. They can be a bit pricey, here is a link to some on sale at 6 pm:

I wear a pair of suede Merrill boots when walking my dogs in the local park. They are fleece lined, have excellent support and are very comfy. I have ‘issues’ with my feet and need to wear orthotics. Consequently, I am very picky about what I can wear to walk the 2-3 miles with my dogs. (I love my Merill Jungle Mocs but of course not for work. I couldn’t find suede Merrill boots. Do you have a model name? Thanks! – PB]

As someone who suffers from Reynaud’s (cold feet and hands) and who lives in the Great Lakes region with cold winters, my recommendation is that you separate your wear-to-work boots from your walking-the-dog boots. Find the most comfortable walking-the-dog boots that you can, throw them on after the work day, and don’t worry if they’re not fashionable or if they get all muddy…
Beaches, with sand, salt and wet, will ruin boots and leave those white marks that won’t go away. I would definitely keep dog-walkers as a separate category. I used to have some LLBean type ones — rubber sole, leather upper — that worked so well for occasions of muck. Not lovely, but a way to keep my pretty boots lasting.

Thank, gang! Keep at it! Fun suggestions! Meanwhile, I am TOTALLY in love with a pair of Fly London boots that cost $250 and that don’t meet my criteria. So that’s not going to happen, but the Le Canadiennes might. I think the suggestion to have one pair for walking is smart except that I hate changing my shoes in a cold car.
