PeaceBang starts almost every day with a blueberry smoothie and a cup of coffee (or two.. or seven or eight…), so the last time she went to the Tolley Dental office in Winchester, her hygienist was properly horrified. “What have you been DOING?” she asked, as PeaceBang smiled a big, toothy blueish grin at her. “What?” says I. “I brush and floss twice a day!”
Well, now Yours Truly brushes with baking soda toothpaste AFTER her smoothie and coffee and is happy to report that the grey-ish tinge on her teeth is a thing of the past. I had noticed that my teeth were getting dingy looking but thought perhaps I was just imagining things.
Anyone in the public speaking biz should keep their smile in good shape. We can’t all afford expensive dental work, but there are many options for whitening teeth for cosmetic improvements that are worth looking into. K. sent me these before and after photos last year and gave me permission to share them. Check this out:

Takes twenty years off her, I say. And she reports that she feels great about her smile, which would tend to encourage someone to smile more, wouldn’t you say? And that’s always a good thing.
Did you know that there’s scientific evidence now that smiling actually effects your mood positively? Yep. But I’ve known this from personal experience for a couple of years now, because I started smiling as a spiritual practice after reading Thich Nhat Hahn’s teaching about smiling. It really works, gang. Of course you can’t force yourself to smile if you’re really down, but if you’re feeling up to it at all, do turn up the corners of your lips and just see if your frame of mind doesn’t improve.
And please, do remember to smile at the congregation on Sundays. They need a genuine smile from their minister. If you have love in your heart, let it come out on your face. And if that smile doesn’t come naturally to you, try a few manufactured grins while walking or grocery shopping or driving. Before you know it, smiling may become a regular habit. Good for you, and good for everyone around you.

It’s also a good idea to smile when you answer the phone. The person calling can’t see your smile, of course, but they can definitely hear it!
Yes, to all you are saying about teeth care and smiling…but isn’t the right picture a retouched copy of the left? Very same exact hair, reflections in glasses, folds in skin. Or were the two photos to show the difference whiter, straighter teeth *would* make? It’s a striking difference, to be sure, but a little confusing.
Rise – you are right – but after the bottom teeth were bleached and the top were done as suggested the final result turned out as predicted – I’ve forwarded an “after” picture to PB – I couldn’t figure out how to add it to the comment
Oo, thanks for that ‘after’ photo! You look Wonderful and Warm and I love your star pin!
