Look at this frumpy pants suit I saw in a window in New York City the other day. HIDEOUS!
And this polyester muu-muu! Obviously the frump gods have prevailed this season!
I wonder how those ugly clothes would look ON? Hmmm. Let’s see….

Gee. Not so frumpy after all, is it?
That muu-muu. Not half bad, either, if you know how to work it:

You have to understand how clothes are cut. You have to understand fabric, and fit, and your own body.
And you have to understand the difference between just getting dressed and wearing clothes well.
Thank you, Miss Hepburn. And thank you to the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts for the wonderful exhibit.

The pantsuit is crying out for some decent accessories. Don’t know what to say about the muumuu!
I am so glad you posted this. Just yesterday morning I was thinking about ‘frump’ and wondering if sometimes frump is in the eye of the wearer – if you really love something and wear it with flair and confidence, perhaps some frump can be redeemed. And here you answered my question, without even having to ask!
I’ve been reading this post long enough to begin to venture out at bit on my own – to say “but I really love that item” or “I would never wear that – I don’t care if Peacebang says it’s cute or not!” And to wear (or not) with consideration of what my outfit communicates. Isn’t a big part of looking good believing you a rocking your outfit and wearing it with confidence?
Wowsers, those wedge shoes with the suit. Can’t really see her jewelry, but that and a scarf would make a difference, as Maggie points out. Did I mention the shoes? [I know. Aren’t they FABOO? – PB]
You have to appreciate your own body, and you have to know how to wear your clothes, instead of letting them wear you. The divine Miss H knew that in her bones, and she was a powerful force to the end of her long life. Brava!
