Just Take Your Preventative Dose of …. WHAT!!!!!??!?!?

Good LORD, pigeons!

I was going to write a nice post about the importance of strengthening your immune system in every possible way in this cold and flu season (which seems to be starting early here in Southeastern Massachusetts). I was going to say that you might want to shoot some doses of this product that I have no idea how to pronounce, and that a friend recommended to me to stave off flu-like symptoms.

I took it because I’ve heard that it helps, and I do feel fine today. But I had no idea that it’s made of extract of duck liver!! What the HAY-ELL?? Yikes. Ladies and gents and others, I do believe we have the Placebo Effect, Exhibit A here.

  1. Boiron makes some other good stuff, too, but I don’t remember what. Their web site (http://www.boironusa.com/) lists a lot of homeopathic products, a few of which I’ve used (like Arnicare). I’m not particularly big on homeopathy, but hey, if it works and it’s harmless, why not?

  2. If it’s any consolation, it probably doesn’t have even a single molecule of duck liver, or the so-called active ingredient, in it.

  3. Since there are pharmaceuticals made from enzymes only found in the urine of a pregnant horse — an extract of duck liver doesn’t seem that weird to me. Yes, totally serious about this. Just google “Premarin”.
