Another Lovely Pastor’s Headshot

Here’s Rev. Tera, looking alive, vibrant, contemporary, polished and professional. Put your hand over her big smile and look at her eyes. Here’s a petite gal with a pixie cut who nevertheless has a serious core. I like that. She looks smart in both senses of the word.

That’s a great haircut on a woman with baby-fine hair. Notice the angular, choppy bangs framing her face. It works so well with her beautifully round cheeks to create a wonderful sense of architecture with her bone structure.

The orange color next to her face is terrific: Tera is wise to stay away from insipid pastels or dull neutrals (she doesn’t wear a lot of make-up so a grey or beige may really wash her out). Notice that the tiny, low-key frill on the blouse softens the neckline a little bit, without taking her into Little Girl Land. Petite women really have to be aware of details like that. Her earrings are pretty and classic with a bit of sophistication factor, and the necklace is FASCINATING to me. I think it makes a statement without being a “statement necklace.” What I read is that it’s a piece with some personal meaning to her but it’s not a symbol that I recognize. I happen to love that it has a sharp edge, which unconsciously communicates a warrior spirit to me. The combination of warrior spirit neckpiece with the pixie cut, calm, oceanic eyes and inviting smile create an image that draws me in.

  1. Well, these two recent thoughtul commentaries on pastoral headshots simultaneously encourage/inspire me AND ratchet up my anxiety about my upcoming appointment with the photographer for the new church directory. At least, instead of totally dreading it, I am thinking more carefully about outfit and makeup for the occasion. Maybe I should practice first at home.

  2. I love everything about this! At first I thought it was a shot from a magazine — that’s how put together and perfect it struck me! And the background! And the lip color with the blouse and her hair and skin tone! wow…just wow. Both of the headshots you’ve highlighted recently have been wonderful. I’m with Jean — the pressure’s on!

  3. Her hair is great and I applaud her for making it all piece-y and a little edgy – it’s a very nice but completely appropriate contrast with the more conservative suit and blouse.
