A Good Sensible Shoe

Helpful Pigeon Amy Walter-Peterson has words of high praise for this perfectly fine black wedge shoe by Circa Joan & David, on sale now at 6pm.com and Zappos.com. She says they go well with pants or a skirt (with tights) or even jeans and are comfy enough to wear in all the settings your ministry will take you.

PeaceBang has come to appreciate the Perfectly Fine Black Shoe. Her own shoe wardrobe is a mix of “Let’s Face It, These Are Not Practical For a Long Day” black shoes and “Okay, I Suppose I Could Wear These If I HAVE To But I’m Not Going To Feel Like My Best Self” black shoes and “I Hate These But They Seemed Cute At the Time” black shoes and “These Are SO ME But They’re Way Too Bohemian For Ministry” black shoes. Which is why she wears black boots 75% of the time, because Mr. John Fluevog is a GOD and PeaceBang is a Boots Girl at heart.

Why is it so all-fired HARD to find a perfectly nice, fine black shoe that isn’t a frumpy Mary Jane, isn’t a ballerina flat, isn’t pinch-your-toes hard leather, and isn’t one inch too high to be able to comfortably wear for a day on your feet? Because it just is. It is one of the immutable truths of the universe, darlings: a simple black shoe for work is hard to find!

So thank you, Amy, for this recommendation. I bought a pair on 6pm.com and I’ll let you know if they work out. A decent-looking 1.5″ black wedge with some toe-wiggle room for my busted up feet (which are aching again in this wet weather) is nothing to sneeze at.

  1. Ecco has some very nice black pumps that I can wear for about 4-6 hours. Some might not like the tapered heel, but I strut around feeling pretty fierce. Gel inserts help. These are not for high-commitment, on-your-feet-all-day situations, but I’ve worn them to the office when I had to give an important lecture – and last fall I stood in them for three hours (no break) when I ushered at a student presentation.

  6. I bough a pair of black pumps at Clark’s about 2 years ago. 2 3/4 inch heels and the most comfortable pumps ever. I amd a MRE and so am on my feet and running up and down stairs most of Sunday morning. best part about these shoes they are comfortable, they do not look like “nun” shoes, and the soles and heels are rubber coated and so when I walk across our hollow wooden stage in front of the congregation they don’t clunk!

  7. I have good black, its BROWN I can’t find to save my life. :\ What is it, why are brown shoes so hard to find??? [Hmmmm. Let me post this. I find that Bandolino and Born both make lovely browns. What are you looking for, exactly? – PB]
