I am tired of shivering in my blazer at springtime graveside services. I got it in black.
I would LOVE to own it in the poppy color, darlings, but sometimes we sacrifice for our art. I hemmed and I hawed, and I bit my lower lip and I thought “Oh, how CHEERY I will be in my poppy trench coat during the cold days of early New England springtime!” But then I had to face Reality and deal with the fact that I need ministerial outerwear particularly for sombre and formal occasions, and frankly, Lipstick Red just won’t do. I have some really cute bright sporty jackets (bright magenta fleece, orange rain parka, etc) but formal wear needs to be dark.
I’ll jazz it up with a fun striped scarf and jaunty cap when I’m wearing it for non-serious occasions.
I give thanks that when it comes to worship, my denomination is always vested. At gravesides, I give thanks for my heavy wool cappa nigra. I did, however, shun the cheery umbrellas should I need to pull one out at a funeral. All this is to say in those situations, I would never be in street wear and can choose to own coats that are more vibrant.
Do you ever poke around at Dress Barn? I’ve begun frequenting their Women’s store and I’m so happy to find large sizes that don’t look like polyester frump.
