I Screwed Up

I owe someone an apology.

After several hours advising some of you on your image, and exchanging numerous e-mails analyzing your hair, clothing, proportions, colors, fit, etc., I took a break and hopped around on some websites. One I hopped onto had been recommended by one of you, and it featured a great article on the power of having clothes tailored to fit your shape. Right up my alley!

Stupidly, and in squinty-eyed critical image consultant mode, I made a thoughtless comment about the hair style of the author of the article. In short, I treated the author as though the author had asked me for a consultation, which was not the case.

Unable to delete the comment, I was/am left simply to apologize. I have certainly put my own photos out there for public viewing on a regular basis and I know how much it hurts when readers criticize aspects of my appearance that aren’t related to the point I am trying to make in the blog post.

And there I went and did the same damned thing.

I am genuinely sorry about my blunder and share my apology here simply to use myself as an object lesson in what kind of hurt any of us can cause when we unthinkingly transition from one space to another without considering what our role is in each of those spaces.

  1. It happens, you apologized. As an aside though, I would love it if you would add a blog roll of great sites you have found. [I gave up on that project a long time ago, Marlene. I just don’t read any one sight consistently enough except for Tom and Lorenzo and Gawker. – PB]

  2. Thank you for sharing the apology. The ability to recognize a mistake and apologize for it is increasingly rare, I fear. You do set a good example for the rest of us.

    Here’s what I tell myself:
    Live and learn. Rinse. Repeat.
