It Happens

I have noticed a HUGE wrinkle.
A new wrinkle.

It is a furrow on the interior of my right eyebrow, otherwise known as a “frown line.”

I have always said that aging is fun because you start to see what you’ve been doing with your face all of these years, and I have to give in and admit that I’ve earned that furrow.

But I do not LIKE that furrow, pigeons. Nor do I like the marionette lines that bring my mouth down into a perma-frown.

Raise your hand if you’ve begun to, oh, say, WONDER how much Botox or other cosmetic enhancements cost, and how one would even go about researching them in the privacy of one’s home?

I’m sitting here with a big grin on my face (fake, just trying to get my muscles working in that direction) and holding my eyes wide open in an expression of total vapidity just to make that furrow go away.

Laugh lines and general sagging are fine with me. Frownies are not.

  1. Alas. Gravity always wins. [I generally am a fan of gravity, sense without it I would be floating around and everything, but THIS application of it is stinky-poo!! – PB]

  2. The alternative is looking like Victoria Beckham.

I’m hoping that yoga inversions will reverse the relentless cruelty of gravity.

  3. I am raising my hand. Oh yes, I have wondered what ALL of that stuff costs. All the while telling myself I would be tasteful in my applications, and not overdo.

I esp wonder about these things when a class reunion is looming on the horizon.

OK, I haven’t wondered about lip injections. They just look ridiculous to me. But a little filler, a little chin fat sucked out…some undereye bags removed and I would be stunning. Stunning, I tell ya.

  4. I’m contemplating botox–sure. Lazer for sun damage, a bit of microdermabrasion. I’m not to proud to say so.

Currently I exfoliate like crazy and spend more money than I should at Sephora on good retinol creams. I’m contemplating going to a dermatologist for them. I figure doing this now will help me in the future.

  5. I’m reading ‘The Fountain of Age’ by Betty Friedan (GREAT book!), quitting coloring my hair, and am too chicken to do anything more to my skin than apply sunscreen.

But I did buy some Fluevog sandals. [Woo hoo! Send photos! – PB]

  6. moisturizer with sun screen [Mais oui! Religiously since the age of 34! Wish I had started earlier! – PB]

  7. Contemplating laser work at 34. Showed horses growing up. Much sun damage. The real pisser is that I have wrinkles, age spots, AND acne. WTF?

  8. Yes, botox, because I don’t want to look as if I’m frowning at people all the time. It isn’t a good look on me with glasses, those frown lines between the eyebrows. Wrinkles per se are no problem, but the ones that say “mad” were not in my plan. I haven’t tried the little tapes I’ve seen to wear at night to help the wrinkies go away.

  9. Frownies ™ are what your last commenter is referring to and I have a box and I think if you use them daily they will not hurt, and just might help, and are inexpensive….I have the furrow in between my brows and I won’t go to botox…. money and fear of what the chemical intervention. but more so attempting to accept that aging is not all bad….and trying to smile more is always a good thing. and maybe bangs to cover up my brow line 😉

  10. First, I am sure your smile is usually real.

This post gets at the reason I tuned in today. What is a good celebration outfit at 57, non-religious event? Nephew graduating from college, and mostly, just wanting to go out more now that the book is wrapping up.
[AW Elz, you look fab in everything! Seriously. And I don’t do non-religious events, sweetheart, or I’d never get any work done. Wear a dress, wear a pair of slacks and a cute blouse … I wish we were closer and we could go shopping in your closet. Call me. – PB]

  11. @joie — might not be acne — you should get checked for Roseacea which can show up as white or red bumps…

  12. Wait until you get the WTF spot on your aging arm from bumping it on something. That is a REAL trauma.

  13. @Susanp- Oh, I have very mild rosacea, too. But on my chin one can see all my stress and hormone fluctuations. Sucks, Sucks, Sucks!

  14. Aging= the FINAL Adventure! Oh yeah, and if you don’t like what you see wrinkle-wise- try Facercise by Carole Maggio. It’s cheap, it’s gentle, it’s non-surgical and you don’t end up looking “surprised” if you know what I mean! It does work, but the onus is on you to do the exercises.

And NO! I have no affiliation with Facercise except as a happy user.
