Well, we here at PeaceBang HQ wish Miss Kate Middleton a very happy wedding day tomorrow. We will not be watching, ourselves, and can’t figure out how to program our DVR to catch the nuptials (what channel), but we feel certain that the mainstream media and the Lifetime Channel will make it possible for us to watch copious footage of the Big Day for the rest of our lives.
The cat is waiting with her tiara and the dog is writing an application letter to become the “royul BeeGul.” I’ll miss him terribly if he gets the job but it’s time someone challenged the Corgi for beloved breed of the royal family, and who better but my Maxfield?
ANYhoo, here is Kate M.’s last outfit as a mere mortal before being ensconced in a hotel room to emerge as the Princess Bride:

But the thing I think is instructive for us about Kate’s outfit is that it’s a perfect example of the “flimsily dressed” problem that I’ve been seeing on younger professional women lately. It’s not that the skirt is too short, exactly, it’s just that everything seems not quite all there. The twee little polka dots are very cute on Kate but would be all wrong on a religious leader, so don’t mind that. Notice that while it’s not a mini-skirt, there’s just too much bare skin showing and while it’s not overtly sexy,to the point of being inappropriate, it just looks cheap and insubstantial. Keep an eye on this, gals of all ages. Make sure that your shorter dresses and skirts have some presence and some heft to them when you’re on the job.
I’m DVR’ing the wedding on BBC America. That’s the channel my mother and her best friend will be watching (LIVE), and I’ll do whatever my Anglophile mother tells me in terms of British Appreciation. 🙂
Yes, this would not be appropriate for a business setting, but since that’s not where she’s wearing it, I love it and think she looks fab. Kate is under 30 with a bangin’ body and can totally pull off a look like that. [I don’t think so. It has nothing to do with her body, it has to do with looking like cheap crap from the mall. She’s going to have to go more luxe with all her clothes. – PB]

I think the young woman on the left, getting out of the car, looks great. I’m not up on who’s who in the retinue, but I’m assuming she’s a personal assistant, and so is dressed for work. It’s unseasonably warm in London right now, and that outfit looks lightweight but professional. [It’s her sister, Pippa! – PB]
So with you on the skirt/dress. The rest of the outfit is fine, but that polka-dot thing looks like something you’d pick up in Primark for £4.50.
I haven’t been a fan of any of Kate’s clothes but the wedding dress is fantastic!
I don’t have a strong feeling about this outfit, but she was fabulous today. I honestly can’t think of a thing she should have done differently
I don’t think there’s too much skin showing. I can’t see the bodice but she’s wearing a cardi. She wasn’t going to work so I think the outfit is great especially the shoes. She is only in her late 20’s and doesn’t need to dress like she’s 40.
I’m ambivalent about the dress and cardigan, but I think the shoes are fabulous!

My daughter just commented to me about the serious need of grooming for the Archbishop.
You mean the Archbishop’s famous eyebrows? I like them, I think he really rocks them; but I can see where some folks might think he needs to run the weedeater over ’em…;-)
Really liked Kate’s wedding dress. Dignified, regal, and at the same time romantic and sweet. I hope this puts an end to strapless wedding gowns at least for a while.
I thought the Archbishop’s gold vestments were just beautiful. I too am waiting to see what PB thought of them.
I loved her wedding dress and the simplified version that she wore for the party, but when I saw the blue skirt or dress she wore to leave for her honeymoon I remembered this and thought, “Yep, flimsy.”
Not just the eyebrows, they are rather iconic after all. But his beard and hair had some serious strays. I know he holds the Anglican Communion in balance (or not) but really a quick trim to tidy things up would have helped.
Loved Kate’s dress. Those pleats! And loved Camilla’s dress!
YEP — I looked at this morning’s footage of the couple leaving Buckingham Palace for the weekend, and thought, DANG, there’s another of those flimsy skirts.
Oh, for pity’s sake. She’s a newlywed going away for a weekend with her husband. She’s not preaching, presenting, leading a class, or going on a job interview.
One cute thing about the Archbishop of Canterbury. He totally had shaved his neck for the service, so he knows how to manscape. Keeping the beard and eyebrows bushy is totally his choice, which I love!
