Do a quick sweep of your closet!
Put in storage:
1. Heavy snow boots (clean them before you store them)
2. Party holiday-wear
3. Anything velvet
4. clothes that feel specifically autumnal (think how nice it will be to see them again in September!)
5. textured hose in dark colors (unless you live in NYC)
6. heavy brown or black bags (if you have an option of rotating them with lighter, brighter colors)
7. Monster coats
8. Snowflake motifs of any sort on scarves, gloves or hats
Get out:
1. Transitional outerwear, like trench coats
2. Bright, shorter scarves and cute hats
3. that gift certificate for a facial: this is the perfect season for one
4. shorter skirts if you’ve been swathed in long ones all winter
5. crisp white t-shirts and blouses and bleach and press them
6. cute boots that can get you through spring showers
7. umbrellas and test them
8. Dutch Tulip nail polish by O.P.I.
9. your mirror: is your make-up too heavy for the stronger light of the new season? Look at yourself in natural light, outside. Consider switching from lipstick to a brighter, lighter gloss. Lay off the heavy eyeliner.
10. Your razor, guys. Time to transition out of the Grizzly Adams winter look.
PeaceBang is going off to the grocery store to get some actual FOOD — isn’t that original? But she has the dreaded jury duty this week and one of the most packed schedules of the entire year and thinks it would be wise to make some soup and roast some kale or something so she doesn’t wind up feeling malnourished and crappy and frantic come, say, Thursday. The laundry has been done and put away, praise Buddha, and the house is cluttered but acceptable. I would rather live with clutter than with an empty larder.
What are you doing to take care of your dear selves this evening?

A massage while at a conference focused on centering prayer. PB, this is an inspired list!
I pulled out my bright cardigans.
A good list for sure and I’ll follow it over the next few weeks. However, the big coat and heavy snow boots will stay out for awhile… we still have 2 feet of snow on the ground 🙁
[I groan for thee. – PB]
If I put my monster coat away, we will have another snow storm. I know this.
I don’t want to put away my winter clothes. I find so many more clothing options during the winter – I love being covered up. My favorite outfits are dark jeans, sweater turtlenecks, a jacket/vest and/or any of my fun necklaces or scarves. During spring and summer I just stand in my closet and stare, imagining my pale legs, flabby arms and lumps and bumps exposed.
I think I will go schedule a massage and pedicure.
[GIRL. I am SO WITH YOU on that. – PB]
Have to wait a little longer on the monster coat & snow boots as we got a wee bit of snow today.
But it’s safe to get winter coats dry cleaned by Memorial Day. My friend once took her only winter coat to the dry cleaners in mid March one year and then naturally it snowed again. She had to call in sick for two or three days because she couldn’t leave the house since she had no winter coat. [No way! OMG! Well heavens. No one wants that. I mean, couldn’t she swath herself in shawls or something? – PB]
Ironing. So that when I panic Wednesday morning b/c I’m giving a Lenten Lecture Wednesday at noon, I will have enough things to try on and discard, till I find the ‘right’ thing. This has been happening to me a lot lately!
just visited the long-forgotten wardrobe that lives in the bottom of the ironing basket, not for summer clothes per se, but for anything that buttons or zips down the front, as i won’t be able to lift my arm over my head for two months. can’t put on those t-shirts from the bottom!
Up here in New Hampshire, the textured dark tights are going to stay in rotation through Lent, methinks … though MOST of the snow is gone.
