Girls and boys,
I am tired of posting photos of myself! Send me some of you, okay?
Also, do you have a shampoo recommendation? I have had it with the Redken formula for colored hair – it just leaves my hair limp and greasy the day after I shampoo it, and if I leave off the conditioner I have static frizz flyaway nightmare head.
So, for fine hair that is dry on the ends and not-dry at the scalp and is colored, what say you?

I have the same hair, maybe moreso. Best: Baby shampoo with Neutrogena Free & Clear conditioner. Also, Jason Biotin shampoo.
I’m a Redken baby, myself – sorry PB! Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner, Total Recharge from the same range, Iron Silk to protect my hair from the heat of the dryer, then Thickening Lotion and Plump Treat to style it.
I have fine very straight hair, which is cut in a straight bob, coloured, and I wash it and style it every day. If I leave off the styling products, it is flyaway and full of static. If I use the above, I can (literally) shake my head and it falls back into place without a brush, and it always looks very shiny. So, Redken works for me.
Hope you find something that works as well for you, and yes, if I had a clue how to do it I would send you a photo!
Beauty without Cruelty (BWC) for fine hair. I used to change my shampoo a couple of times of year because of buildup but I’ve used this product for several years with no problems! http://www.beautywithoutcruelty.com/
I’ve got fine, straight hair, oily scalp, highlights. Because of the highlights I usually use Pantene ProV Blond Expressions and I shampoo every day. I get flyaway/static if I don’t use spray gel (Herbal Essence). And I sometimes feel that this shampoo doesn’t get my hair squeaky clean. My truly favorite shampoo is Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Shampoo, which usually costs me 97-cents a bottle at Kroger, and color-or-no, I think I’m going back to that.
I’m a big Aveda fan, but mostly because of the smell. Sham pure tends to my crazy thick hair that I put color on that is greasy at the roots and dry at the ends. It is too expensive, though.
I always use to use Aveda products but recently switched to the L’oreal Suflate free with UV shampoo and conditioner. I think it works great on my color treated hair at about 1/4th the cost.
I second the recommendation for the L’Oreal sulfate-free line. But when I’m feeling flush, I use Thermafuse:

I know you’ve tried it before, but I am currently in LOVE with the Deva Curl products for colored hair.
My hair is super fine, wavy, dry, and colored, and Deva Curl No-Poo & One Conditioner are rocking its world.
Yet again, I am a layperson spending Christmas Eve in the pulpit assisting my ministers with readings, so if my outfit is up to snuff, I will certainly send you a picture!! I’m supposed to wear a white top & black bottom for leading carols at one of the services, but UGH, that outfit does me no favors… Gotta get creative!
I joined the No Poo “movement” about six months ago, and the results are astonishing. A few weeks ago when my hairdresser went to shampoo my head before a haircut, I said, “Would you just wet it down, please?” She asked me what I was using on my hair, because my fine frizzy hair has become full and lustrous and loopy-curly. When I told her I hadn’t shampooed it in five months, she thought I was kidding. “But it doesn’t stink!” she said. (Really. It doesn’t.)
When I had chemotherapy, just about the only thing I was happy about was not having to wash my hair! When I heard about the No Poo possibility, I decided to give it a try. The idea is that your scalp produces the right amount of oil to clean and condition your hair, if you just leave it alone for a while. (It takes a while for it to even out, I admit. Don’t try this a week before your big job interview.) Every day I rinse my hair with warm water and massage my scalp, and most days I use a leave-in paraben-free conditioner, because my curls get dry. That’s it.
If you’re curious, you can google No Poo. There’s quite a bit of info out there. By the way, I don’t have color-treated or permed or straightened hair, because I don’t want the chemical exposure, and I’m not interested in maintaining it. I don’t know whether that would make a difference.
After I got rid of my many shampoo and conditioner bottles in the shower, I began to wonder about all the stuff I was using to clean my face, and then moisturize it again, not to mention the magic anti-wrinkle and smoothing and clarifying and pore-shrinking potions. I’ve switched to organic jojoba oil as a facial cleaner, and freed up a whole drawer in the bathroom. I still need a moisturizer in the winter–I use regular Aveeno, on my face and my body, and suncreen during the day. Almost every time I see someone I haven’t seen for a while, they comment on how young I look (I’m 53) and how my skin glows. My usual makeup consists of a little powder on my nose, mascara, lip gloss, and re-drawn eyebrows. (They never came back after the chemo.)
My husband and I can see a lot of movies with all that extra money. I also like the time savings, and knowing that I’m dumping fewer chemicals into the wastewater stream and fewer bottles into the recycling bin.
What Shagbark said. I’ve been no-poo for 5+ years, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my hair.
When I have the dough, I use WEN Cleansing Conditioner. Other times, I “conditioner wash” with various Suave conditioners. A current favorite is the Almond & Shea Butter from the Professionals line.
I tried the “No Poo” thing, but my hair is so incredibly short that it was actually more work to do the apple cider vinegar rinse and occasional baking soda scrub. A super quick pass with a smidge of shampoo is easier. We live in our RV and conserving water is the big incentive. No Poo used more water, believe it or not.
When the shampoo touches your hair for only 20 seconds, the brand doesn’t matter. At least it doesn’t for me, but I have very obedient and easy hair. Always have. Yes, I am blessed in this way.
Photo is on its way as a token of gratitude for all the picture sharing you do with us, PB. It takes courage to share the ups and downs of your hair and skin photographically. Thank you!
I have really fine hair. I’ve been pleased with two Aveda products. Pure abundance (shampoo and conditioner) gives it some body. When I want it silky soft I use the Infusion shampoo and conditioner. They also have a light mousse that works well and is not too heavy for my tiny hair. Enjoy.
I love the Loreal sulfate free line. I get virtually no buildup, no flakes, and as a bonus that one little patch of hair that is super-dry and frizzes lays down and behaves!
I like variety. I’m currently using:
Aveeno’s Nourish/Moisturize shampoo & conditioner (it’s probably my favorite).
Suave Almond/Shea shampoo (this is one of the few shampoos I’ll use without its matching conditioner or use without any conditioner).
Suave Professionals Humectant Conditioner (again, its one I’ll use without its match). I can only use this a couple times a week, everyday makes my hair fluffy/frizzy, I can’t explain it.
John Frieda’s Brilliant Brunette or John Frieda’s Root Awakening (it’s for dry hair).
I’ll use Bed Head on occasion.
Now that I’m no longer a lurker,
hugs from HW
