I Live In Fear

Because of the return of all things 1980’s, PeaceBang lives in mortal terror that STIRRUPS MIGHT COME BACK INTO FASHION.

*shudder*

  4. As long as they stay tucked inside a great pair of tall boots, I’m ok with stirrups.

  8. I HAD those! In lilac, as I recall, at the age of 7. I think I had a few pairs, actually, but the lilac ones stand out in my mind. It was like being able to wear jodhpurs All Summer Long! (When you’re seven, this is a good thing, I promise.)

Ah, the fun. They were a truly hideous article of clothing.

That said, who am I to comment. I spent my day off wandering around in black leggings and a long T-shirt, fondly imagining I looked like Audrey Hepburn.

  9. What are stirrups in fashion terms?
I just know about the equestrian context.

  10. Stirrups; those tight leggings that don’t end at the ankle, but narrow down to a thin strip that goes under your foot. I used to wear them. Twenty-five years and 50 pounds ago.

  11. Ahh- I see.
Yes, horrible. Don“t want them back.
Not keen on 80s fashion anyway.

  12. I didn’t wear stirrups when they came the first time because I am old enough to remember wearing STRETCH PANTS under the dresses that were required for girls in grade school in my hometown in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Yes, trudging through the snow in a dress, the stretch pants kept the legs warm. Then, trying to wiggle out of them in the hall without showing your underpants. No, no stirrups.

  13. I have lots of memories of my mom altering my stirrups because my legs were short and they never fit right.

  15. I’m guilty of owning a pair…. but I ONLY wear them with knee socks and tall boots over them I promise! I know they are hideous, but I find that they go under my boots smoother than tights without them, I never wear them without the knee socks and boots over (and a dress or skirt over too obviously, tights are not pants!)

  16. Too late – I saw them on a young woman at the airport recently. AAAUGH!

  17. PLEASE tell us she was 15 and anorexic…….

  18. For the sole purpose of keeping me warm under regular pants and not riding up like regular leggings, I’d buy a pair. Nothing else.

  19. Of COURSE, they are coming back–they look good on a only few people, are edgy and are “recycled” fashion. Designers must bring new things in so the clueless stampede to the store to buy the latest, whether it suits or not. Example: military or band jackets are coming back, a la Sgt Pepper. Ultra skinny jeans are now more in style than the flattering boot cut.

  20. Are there two types of stirrup pants or something? Because the ones I’m thinking of are always this awful, unflattering cut with a seam down one or both sides. The material they are made out of stretches out after a few washes/wears, and they fade terribly. I couldn’t imagine anyone wearing these under a skirt or dress because it would just like like you’re wearing tucked in lightweight sweat pants under your dress.

But sounds like there might be another type of stirrup pant that is tighter fitting? Like tights?
