Reality Check

Waiter, I’ll have my reality check, please!

Darlings, just a brief momento to say that PeaceBang is terribly aware of the current economy. She is terribly aware that many of our churches are hurting financially and that we, our friends and parishioners, our Significant Others, family members and neighbors are getting pink slips, taking cuts in pay or generally up nights worrying about how to make mortgage or car payments, how to pay for school, or how to keep working when he had hoped to retire in a year or so.

Despite these realities, this blog is determined to stay fun and fairly escapist in that it will continue to focus on Beauty Tips For Ministers. Not Financial Tips (unless it is to write about such things as they relate to Clergy Self-Care), not Theological Reflections About The Current Crisis, and not about Saving Your Marriage When One Of You Is Very Unhappily Unemployed.

PeaceBang figures that you can get those features elsewhere and in the meantime she will remain focused on her mission here, which is the de-frumpification of the clergy.

Hang tough, kittens.

Kiss of peace, PB

  1. Amen to that. If you can handle a story from the Bright Side, last night I scored (on sale, 50 and 75% off, respectively) two pairs of dark jeans I am calling “Voodoo Pants”. They are dark, they fit, they are the size I want to be (and not the size I feared I was after the winter), they make my stomach look flat and my bum look about 10 pounds smaller. They just need some hemming. There is happiness out there! There is! (The sale is at Ann Taylor, for anyone who needs their own voodoo pants.)

I am wearing them to church on Sunday with a collar and a jacket, and I will be super-cool and revel in it. Heck, I might even pull out the heels for that Sunday… I bet there will be a parishoner who will complain about the priest in jeans, but they also complain when I wear skirts, slacks, and cords. So it’s a no-win.

  2. Good. We like to forget about the miserable state of the economy for a while and just concentrate on being defrumped. A question: Yesterday I found a skirt that looks spring like. It is March, but still winter here in Wisconsin. The skirt is black but has bright flowers on it, and the material is one of those kind of swingy nylon overskirts with a lining underneath. It is cold, but I am longing for spring colors. So would it be goofy to wear such a skirt with black boots and a relatively warm top? There a lots of us who live up in the frozen north who, about now, are ready to pack away the long johns even though it is still icy outside. [DO IT! You’re absolutely right to wear it with the boots, tights and a sweater (nothing too bulky), but hey, your people will thank you for bringing some bright into their day. Part of what we can do with our appearance is to proclaim, too, right? Like “We’re in Lent, I know, but Easter is COMING!” – PB]

  3. Thank you Peacebang. I appreciate your good attitude. It’s about time we had something happy to look forward to online.

  4. Thanks. When you can’t go to the grocery store or the kids school without hearing a horrible story or seeing one in action, it seems really important to have places to turn to discuss lipstick and the all important little black dress. 😉
