Wide-Leg Chinos and Conference Bags
March 10, 2008 on 9:13 am | In Pastoral Fashion Emergency, Or "PeaceBang, Help!" |Dear hearts,
Some of you inquired about the wide-legged chinos featured in my post of a few days ago, “Pants That Scare, Pants That Inspire.” I think I found the ones I featured on the Nordstrom website, but they were mighty ’spensive (notice the sateen band at the top? That’s why).
But I found you these, also available on the Nordstrom site (up to size 14 only, sorry):
As for conference bags, we’ve talked quite extensively about bags on here and those seeking wisdom and advice in that area might want to start by browsing the “Accessories” and “General Assembly/Conferences” archives. If you keep at it, you’re likely to find a photo of the notorious CHICKEN BAG worn by the Rev. Jake Morrell at the St. Louis General Assembly. Notorious!!

Might seem like a strange place to be buying professional cloths but Victoria Secret has a few wide leg chinos that look very similar at the moment. Cost about the same unless you can find your size in their clearance area (sizes also limited to the smaller range there). I just got a pair recently for around $20 through their clearance, worth checking out. (And so glad one of my purchases just got PB approval!)

Macys’ has a style like this (I think they call them sophia style? they are in the basic–not designer–collection). The wide waistband sits HIGHER, which is a good thing in my opinion. They come in petite sizes, too!
Talbots is always good for nicer wide leg dress pants (goood fabric, lined) and they do a nice job with petites, too.

For what it’s worth, Ann Taylor Loft in incredibly consistant for me, and I tend to buy wide-legged pants. (I’m 5′3″, ya gotta do something to make those suckers look long!)

Wait a minute — these pants have elephant legs, not just wide legs. What if they get caught in an elevator at GA? Or too close to a campfire on a chilly evening? Or stuck in a bicycle chain?

actually, nordstrom’s website only has a portion of the store’s stock. the encore (plus size) department has a ton of fashionable and ministry approved clothing in all price ranges. there are 2 in the commonwealth - one in natick and burlington opens on 3/28.
