Remember wallabees? You were like in fourth grade and they were the coolest things and you wanted some so badly, and you actually got to get them because they weren’t too mature and dangerous like the CLOGS you also wanted with a searing passion?
I found a pair of totally classic wallabees on the sale rack at Off Broadway Shoes a couple of weeks ago and whenever I wear them I look at my feet and am right back in Miss Macdonald’s class, just figuring out that I REALLY LIKE BOYS. They’re ugly as sin, so I mostly just wear them in secret. Twelve bucks of sheer nostalgic happiness, friends.

What I desperately wanted were “Yo Yos” — platform shoes with a hole cut in the heal. I wanted them SOOOO bad.
Mom said no … plus, I had to wear “corrective shoes,” the ugliest things on earth. And now, doctors know that they never even had the power to correct anything. Except any delusions of coolness.
siiigh.
I have always thought that wallabees look really cool for men, kind of like those Puma sneakers which were hot in the early eighties, and are making it back now.
Hope I don’t sound sexist, but these shoes were never a good look for women. I wonder if it’s a question of proportionality, in terms of men’s feet in regards to the size ratio to the rest of their body doing ok with shoes of this style…I dunno.
But I do remember Earth shoes, and those suckers looked good on NOBODY!!
I am only 12 and in the 7th grade. I have pair of wallabees. They are “the cool shoes now”. They cost around $100. Only the coolest kids have them now. They cool shoes are sperrys, rainbows, wallabees, uggs, and moccasins. Of coarse they all cost around $100. Just to let you know what is in style now.
Ugh
Rainbows are only 50
and sperrys are only 75
…”only the koolest kids have them”
pshhh!
Just goes to show that if you keep something long enough, it will come back in to style:) Uggs are still the coolest shoes. Comfortable and stylish, whats not to like!
