Hello, dear pigeons!

I am on vacation, a concept that I highly recommend every minister embrace! Especially this time of year, when you feel like you’re doing okay with your spiritual practice and maintaining perspective but in truth, you’re possibly just a little crispy fried onion of the kind that you sprinkle on the top of a green bean casserole.

I planned my winter vacation in conjunction with my FIFTIETH BIRTHDAY.
FIFTY.
I got two of my best soul guardians to go to New York City with me (a place that touches my soul and connects me to ancestors both genetic and artistic) and immerse in art and good food and laughter and memory.

I recommend doing this with people who know and love you well and whose company you absolutely delight in, and whom you trust completely with your feelings, random thoughts and bad choices in pre-paid parking lots.

This is me the night of January 13 at the Met, a most favorite and magical place of mine. We wined and dined at the restaurant there and felt our grown-upness (my best friend and I grew up in adoration and awe of the Met, and have many cherished young girl memories there — some together) and then saw the classic “La Boheme,” which was sublime.

This, by the way, is a tremendously flattering angle for personal photos but I would not recommend it for professional photos, as it makes one look rather like a beseeching child looking up at an omnipotent figure. There are resonances of “IT PUTS THE LOTION IN THE BASKET” in this angle, but I love this photo for this particular occasion. Don’t think I didn’t consider that the flowers on my dress would perfectly match the rug at the Met! I totally did!

So this morning it’s off to MotherBang’s in South Carolina and so I must run.
