I’m so tired writing this. I hope the Pizza Fairy comes soon or I might have to go downstairs and make my own din-din.
Anyway, I attended a swanky MLK Day event today and here’s a list of some of the things that went through my mind as I got dressed:
I will wear clericals so that I can be easily identified by community folks who want to network with local clergy.
I will wear a suit. Blech.
This skirt needs to be taken in. It is the right length but too floppy in the sides. Note to self: visit the tailor.
I will wear pantyhose out of respect for Dr. King. Blech, I hate pantyhose.
I will swap my funky heels for more sedate knee-high boots because this is not an occasion for tights and funky shoes. It is an occasion for non-attention -getting shoes, and I’m going to be walking around later so I need to wear flats. It is cold, so I won’t wear flat shoes but flat boots.
I will wear a little touch of bling out of respect for Dr. King.
I will do Full Effort Hair and Make-Up out of respect for Dr. King.
Oh no. This hairdo makes me look like a Founding Father.

Love this list. Except for the collar, my thinking exactly. Plenty of people showed up in jeans, and I thought clergy needed to look more professional: black pants, black pumps, herringbone jacket, muted blue/violet scarf. Then did a quick change in my car as four of us headed to a march. Swapped out the scarf for a collar and stole, and changed from the pumps into black suede walking shoes.
I’m sure that you looked wonderful!
Love it! I wore my most flashy jacket (a purple/pink/gold Chinese style thing I bought in my first year of ordained ministry that when it dies I will cry) with black suit slacks and highly polished Danskos (runners feet. 🙁 ) Did my best with winter hair and worn all day make-up. Managed to look as fab as my male Baptist preacher co-host. #clergyfashionwin
‘make your own din-din’? My dear, it sounds like you need a live-in housekeeper/cook…;-)
