It’s wonderful to hear that the Rev. Amy Butler, now serving at Calvary Baptist in Washington, DC, has been selected as the candidate to the historic Riverside Church in New York City, which has been served by dynamo Rev. James Forbes for a very long time.
A Faithful Pigeon sent me an e-mail full of praise for Reverend Amy, saying, “She’s doing it right!”
I would agree! Of the images I found online of Amy, I liked this one the best. It’s striking. She’s got on the traditional pearls but juxtaposed with a strong lip, strong hair style, and a direct gaze. It’s an image that grabs and invites you [click to enlarge]:
These are the more official photo accompanying the announcement of Riverside’s historic decision on the media outlets.
Much less strong, and they’re even a tiny bit out of fuzzy. If I was the Rev. Ms. Butler’s New York Agent, I would get her to a photographer to replicate the look of the stronger images. Sharp lady needs sharp focused photos! These are perfectly serviceable images, but I read a subtle discomfort here in the way she has her head tilted. Her expression also seems a bit self-effacing.
Again, let’s compare. See how much more powerful this image is? Red background: BAM! Head tilted slightly up, but yet with a friendly and warm smile! Bam! I love this photo! That big, relaxed smile!
Our prayers are with the Riverside Congregation and with the Rev. Amy Butler as they enter into this time of discernment and prepare for the congregational vote on May 4th. Dare I say, “you go, girl?” Well, I just did. And what color lippy is that? Inquiring minds want to know!

Basically looking really good, I’d say!
