Overly-Light Under-Eye Concealer Makes Baby Jesus Cry

Hello dearies!
This comment caught me eye, as I sat here tucked in bed working on my sermon and taking a break from working on my sermon while tucked up in bed. It’s FREEZING HERE! I was working in my study when my legs turned into short, chunky blocks of ice!

Anyway, to the comment,

A friend finally told me what others must have been thinking for a long time: that my concealer was just too light for me. I looked like I had reverse war paint.
I’m now dabbing watered-down Zia foundation and hoping it all looks OK. This looks like the answer to my under eyes.

What a good friend! Under eye concealer is God’s own gift to humanity, don’t get me wrong, and I am in favor of its use by all people regardless of gender. There’s no reason a fellow can’t sneak some on with his eye cream, and if you think eye cream is too girly you’re just depriving yourself of effective skin care. I promise that you’ll still get cute laugh lines and crinkles; just at a slower rate than if you use eye cream.

Anyway, one can have too much of a good thing and I concur that overly-light concealer makes for a very weird contrast. A friend of mine posted a make-over photo of herself recently and she looked great except for the Albino Raccoon Face Mask effect her too-light under-eye concealer was giving her. That might have been due to the photo flash, so I didn’t say anything.

The moral of the story is to check your make-up tricks in natural light, photo flash light (if you’re going to be photographed in it) and sanctuary lights. As we always say here at BTFM, “Try not to let anything distract people from seeing YOU and not that funny thing happening on your face or outfit” or simply, “Make-up is a good thing, except when it’s bad.”

  1. Concur, especially about concealer for guys. As someone with chronic sinusitis, I look like a byzantine icon when I wake up…to the point that I have had people ask who popped me in the eye. So until my ship comes in and I score a lead piece in a Zombie Apocalypse film, it’s concealer for me, all the way.

BTW, Olay’s Regenerist product with the touch of concealer works well…it looks natural and feels good.

  2. Here, here. Under-eye concealer was the first make-up I ever used, having had dark circles since I could remember. Getting poor sleep makes them worse, but no amount of shut-eye in the world will prevent people from asking me if I am ill when I don’t wear it. I also had to learn the correct shade. I look at old photos – and I mean high school – and the white half-moons are rather shocking. Clinique is overpriced for most items, but I’ve found no better concealer for match, consistency, and staying power.
