We here at BTFM are starting to become more aware of this issue and will be trying very hard to not purchase, review or promote products that test on animals. Please help me keep my commitment, pigeons. “Cruelty-free” is a broad designation and some companies have parent companies that use animal testing but I’m going to do my best.
Go kiss your furry friends if you have any. They have so much to teach us.
Beagles are such friendly, trusting, non-aggressive dogs they are frequently top choice for use in labs, where they are kept in cages for years, tortured repeatedly and then euthanized. This little guy has become my Jiminy Cricket. Let’s hope for more industries to ban animal testing.
I am SO pleased about this. 30 years ago I researched animal testing (for cosmetics) for a Girl Guide presentation and was shocked by what I discovered. I started asking questions and only buying products not tested on animals (this was pre-internet, and meant writing away to some fairly radical organisations for lists of products) I also started writing to companies to tell them why I was boycotting. It opened my eys to the power of the consumer. In a capitalist democracy you have 2 ways of expressing yourself – by voting once every x years which may or may not make a difference, and every single time you make a purchase. Its amazing how fast companies start listening when the bottom line is impacted, and also how politicians start listening when companies start getting impacted.
It also helped me think about the “withdrawal of consent”. Its not because something seems to be how things are done, and unchangable that I am obliged to go along with it.
Anyway – well done EU for getting there at last !
Thank you for promoting such an important and beautiful message about the importance of loving rather than torturing animals! We all need to be alert to companies to shun, and tell them WHY we are not buying their products.

Yay and hooray! There are so many cruelty-free products out there. Origins is my current favorite. My dear friend Jackie adopted an adorable rescue beagle. Her sweet pup had lived in a cage for her whole life, used for testing by a cosmetics company, until she was rescued by Beagle Freedom Project and found a home with Jackie. http://www.beaglefreedomproject.com.
I stopped buying leather and all animal products because the cruelty to animals didn’t mesh with the way I wanted to live my life. It gets easier and easier each year to find all sorts of professional, beautiful items that weren’t the end results of a system that abuses animals.
