Lord Have Mercy

Oh my God, darlings.
PeaceBang is trying to get some looks together for an inspiring fall preview, but she has NEVAH seen such ugliness in the fashion world before. These offerings are truly an abomination unto the LORD.

Here’s what Nordstrom has for plus sizes, for instance:

A shapeless, baby vomit-colored garment that costs $198. By Eileen Fisher, designer to rich frumps everywhere! Seriously, that woman should be exported to a country where women WANT to pay big bucks to look like prison matrons.

I’m afraid the news isn’t any better for anyone of any gender expression of any age or size.

But I’ll keep trying! Meanwhile, go see “Moonrise Kingdom” and see the religious allegory in it, and get out of the heat. MWah.

It’s a good thing I learned a long time ago not to read this blog while drinking tea, or I’d be minus a keyboard. This is SO TRUE that it should be her company slogan. I once had a really nice Eileen Fisher outfit, and so I have checked out the website periodically in search of something I’d like. It never happens. They are shapeless and expensive, and usually in colors that would make a battleship look depressed, to the point that I’ve wondered if EF is deliberately testing how far her customers will go. “Will they pay $70 for a cheaply hemmed rectangle of iron-gray silk? Yes they will! OK, then, how about $350 for a boatneck sweater in dirt-under-the-fingernails brown? Ka-ching!”

  2. I really am a suit woman. I like suits. They make me happy. I like how I look in them. I like how they make me feel. And they are increasingly hard to find. The lawyers on “The Good Wife are my role models. I just started adding corporate dresses because of them. I recently drove out to Pennsylvania Dutch country to find a Kasper outlet store.

  3. $198!!!!! For $5 I can get a box of Hefty bags and have an entire wardrobe and customize it to make it look better than that thing.

What is it with the continuing war on larger sized women (and by larger size, I mean anybody wearing over a size 6)?

  4. The ensemble you show is indeed ugly and overpriced, but I think it’s inaccurate to disparage Eileen Fisher entirely. Eileen Fisher is expensive, but some of my favorite clothes are hers. The EF ensemble I wore for my daughter’s wedding was quite expensive but was the best option for the occasion at any price. I have some EF sweaters that I wear over and over again and on which I get many compliments. [Oh, listen, I know that EF makes some piss-elegant, classic stuff. But I like to rip on her because every time I check, there she is showing insanely priced rags. Even the sales clerks get the giggles when I go off on my Eileen Fisher rants for their entertainment. – PB]

  5. Ewwww. The color alone is appalling. It’s something I’d wear only on my cold dead carcass, because it would make me look like my liver was gone…
[Now THAT’s a hyperbolic comment worthy of PB! Right on, girl! – PB]

  6. That looks like something I would wear over a swimsuit– if it were made of terrycloth…

  7. Eileen Fisher can be quite elegant – especially on the tall, pencil-thin lasses of the world. But wait – doesn’t everything look elegant on them? How about something for the rest of us???

  8. Thanks for the complement on my hyperbolic comment, PB.

There are other colors I put into the same category, due to my coloring. One of them is orange, which I won’t be buying this year. There was a pale pastel pink skirted business suit I saw one day, I put into that category because I did not like the concept! I would wear the color in a shirt, with a black suit, but NOT the whole suit. Eeek!

It is useful to know if a color makes you look like you need your liver enzymes drawn, so that you avoid wearing it.

  9. Called out good on my EF attachment. The thing is I like those hang-open sweaters of the “twin set” combo, and my EF clothes do seem to last forevah!! But yegads, I wait for sales, the prices are insane. I bought a linen knit cardigan at the EF outlet store in Burlington, black and boring, but it works.

  10. If the above is the Diane Miller I know, I have NEVER seen you look frumpy. You have style, and I say keep on doing what you’re doing.
