Topsy Tail

So I bought this little gadget at Claire’s (“Where you go pretending to buy stuff for your pre-teen daughter but it’s really for you!”) called a Topsy Tail to help me put my hair up, and I couldn’t figure out how to use the dang thing despite the detailed instructions in the package. So I found this adorable tutorial on YouTube and I just had to share it with you. These two are sisters, which makes it even cuter.

YouTube videos of women doing each other’s hair make me happy. It’s total GIRL SPACE. Oh, and speaking of hair, I loved Chris Rock’s documentary about the relationship between black women and their hair, “Good Hair.”

  1. Oh, my goodness! What goes around comes around again. I used one of these back in the early 80s – and I made mine out of a coat hanger. How cheap is that?

  2. I used to have one of those! It really does help. I also had that soft spongy thing that helps put your hair in a (sort of) french knot. Wish I still had that one.

  3. How cute are these two?! I played with my sister’s hair all the time when we were little. I had a boy cut (my choice), and she had hair halfway down her back. Such fun!

  4. I LOVE my Topsy Tail and do often wear hairstyle #2. AND my parishioners love it, too. I do often get positive comments on this particular hairstyle.
Although I do not like getting to mandy comments on my style as this should never be the focus of any ministry. But people often just want to be “nice” – so that’s OK for me. 😉

  5. I remember replacing the wire hanger version I’d made with the real thing. Didn’t know they still made it. BTW, the sisters really are sweet
