Honey buns,
Do any of you wear Rieker shoes? I’ve never tried any on but they seem very comfy. I am, as ever, looking for shoes that will give me enough comfort and support to walk around in, enough cuteness to be interesting, and (at this point) summer coolness. I was looking at these, which have that sort of granny-chic thing that’s very in right now (the Zappos video shows that they fit rather dorky which I admit I love), and also a touch of Western cowgirl type feel that I’m into. I think this is a great neutral color for me (I think it would look beautiful with brown skin, too — all but the palest white skin, in fact):
Imagine with a chambray sundress with a ruffled bottom worn with a long navy light-weight duster, scarf in hair, big funky necklaces, huge slouchy bag in grey sueded leather. Can you see it?
Or am I losing my ever-loving mind?
Speaking of which, how KILLER was this week, huh? Wow, are you psyched to be done with it? Doing a full Sunday full of preaching, teaching and attending an Installation seems like the most relaxing thing I have to look forward to in awhile, seriously. Can I get a witness?
I kind of like them but I’m not feeling the cowgirl vibe. [That’s what their website description says. Maybe I’m a sucker for advertising. The toe is really boxy and boot-like, though.- PB] Oh well, to each her own! For the pale among us, there’s another color that might work as well.
Tonight, I’m playing with different shoes. It’s warm enough to get out of winter mode, but not quite time for strappy little sandals. I’ve settled on tan suede peep toe platforms–they’ve got a retro feel that will work, I hope. [Oooh, photos!! Photos! – PB]
I’ve owned a couple of pairs of Rieker shoes and loved them to death – quite literally. A couple of pairs of sandals and some sort of like this but not really. But they are very comfortable.
I find Riekers to be hit and miss. Some I’ve worn for years and loved, some never get comfortable. When I have a problem it’s usually that the leather is too stiff, especially in the sole, and it never softens up enough. They are usually great looking. I had one pair I wore forever.
They’re quite comfy- I’ve worn a pair of sandals years ago. The latest collections seem to look a bit “old fashioned” to me (in my 30s).
But as we all know- it’s a matter of taste. 😀
What is the right color of shoes to wear with pale legs? I always have trouble shopping for a pair of sandals, I feel like black and brown just scream look at my feet! I would have thought this color would work, I try to go as neutral as possible. [Well, that really depends on your legs. I think you just have to keep trying and find what works for you. Young, fit women with pale white skin can look cute with dark colors. I think the older we are the less it works. I like to go for taupe colors or “nude” (which should be re-named “White Lady Skin Color”) but it REALLY depends on what you’re wearing, how long your skirt is, and how dressy you want to be. A fabulous black pump looks great on any color leg but a black Mary Jane is another story entirely. Sorry I can’t provide helpful guidelines! – PB]
I think any cowgirl vibe to them comes from the heel. It looks like a “walking heel” on a cowboy boot (mens or unisex basic cowboy boot as used for riding and ordered from a Western wear source).
