Most of the indie designers featured on the site don’t make plus-sized clothes but I have had great success finding fabulous garments for Cute Biscuits who write asking for recommendations.

And although most of the dresses are really adorable hipster styles that really are NOT appropriate for clergy-wear (although take a look and love on those designs for vacation or days off!), there are a few here and there that might work for your needs:

So anyway, the point is that if you need to acquire a new garment for a special occasion or just life in general, why not head over to ModCloth.com before traipsing to the mall, and see if you can support an independent designer by wearing their look? You certainly know you won’t be wearing what everyone else has on!
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Modcloth! I’ve ordered from them several times (mostly fun and exciting shoes) and have received my items very quickly. (I’m expecting a delivery from them today!) They have a wonderful return policy too if something ends up not fitting so well. Sometimes they even throw in little freebees like hair accessories.
Wish they had petite sizes. I have (largely because of Auntie Peacebang) given up thinking I can just roll up sleeves or ignore whether or not something hits me properly in the waist. Even my Goodwill scores which are dirt cheap. Have. To. Fit. And, I couldn’t help reading the cream coat as “Country Lane Troll Stench”. Snort.
ModCloth is AMAZING. I usually avoid buying online because fit can be so tricky (I’ll shop online, then go to stores to try stuff on), but ModCloth is too fun not to. I’m particularly a sucker for their dresses.
One thing of note: be sure to check the LENGTH of the dresses (I was one of the many voices asking them to be able to sort dresses by length, before they had a “Longer Lengths” section). I have a friend who has a “dress” from ModCloth that she wears as a (very adorable) tunic. One of the dresses I got was shorter than expected and is absolutely an “out on the town getting drinks with girlfriends” kind of dress. Now I know that 35″ is BARE MINIMUM, with 38″+ more comfortable.
ModCloth also turned me on to one of my favorite designers: Max + Cleo. Their dresses are more expensive, but worth every penny. The quality of the fabric and craftmanship is amazing, and the dresses I have from them fit me FABULOUSLY.
