PeaceBang was just EVER so curious about the supposedly lip plumping lipsticks on the market, so she caved and bought one.
The color is pretty.
The formula is pretty long-lasting and not too drying.
The price was reasonable.
I suppose if you don’t mind the sensations of red ants marching all over your mouth, the “plumping” claims have some merit to them, although I’m not sure if it was so much that my lips got plumper as they just started to sting. Also, don’t kiss anyone you really like until the stinging wears off, because the taste is truly poisonous.
I am wearing Maybelline’s Volume XL Seduction Plumping Lipcolor in “Born With It.” And yes, I am kidding with that expression.

I think they use something like cinnamon oil to make one’s lips plump up in reaction to the irritation, thus the stinging sensation. The color is darling on you, but I hate the idea of experiencing annoying pain on my lips just to look pouty – nobody’s ever going to take me for Angelina Jolie unless I get lip implants. Not. Happening.
Great color, I am not too thrilled about the red ant deal, so I will pass. Thanks for the warning, I mean review 😉
The only plumper I’ve ever tried that didn’t give me that red ant sensation, and actually plumped a little, is the Clinique plumping lip gloss. And the colors are gorgeous! But I’ve moved on to long wearing lipstick now, thanks to you PB!
I’ve actually been told that the stingy or tingling sensation means you are dehydrated….don’t know if there is scientific research to back this up but i doubt there is any for the ‘lip plumper’ either….
[Sorry, what do you mean? You mean if your lips sting ‘just because,” and not because you’re wearing lipstick with cinnamon oil or whatever in it? When I’m dehydrated I usually get a pulling sensation down near my kidneys, not to mention the more obvious dry mouth and puckery fingers. – PB]
I just discovered this phenomenon, because I like the way lipstick looks on other people, so after a lifetime of not wearing it, I thought I’d try. Samples in store all reveal: when one has a small mouth and thin lips, lipstick is not helpful. I am content with my mouth, but putting lipstick on it makes me like it less. Not the desired effect.
So I went online and looked up makeup tips for people with small mouths. They boil down to “wear sheer neutrals” (I translate this as “don’t wear lipstick”) or “use a lip plumper, lip-plumping lipsticks, etc. to get a little closer to that full-lipped look we love.” I looked up what a lip plumper was and quailed. Ah well, it’s lip gloss if I feel like sheen, nothing the rest of the time.
