Lizard Eater, who is preparing for a trip to DISNEY WORLD!, paused long enough in her bustling about to send this hot tip to PeaceBang,
Okay, before I travel the world by going to Epcot and you travel the world by, you know, TRAVELING THE WORLD …
I have run across the tip twice now, so had to pass it on to Beauty Tips for Ministers. Monistat chafing relief powder gel (found with the feminine hygiene stuff). I bought it because apparently it’s also good smeared on your feet and ankles (to avoid blisters). But get this — “it’s also good to use as a makeup base. It makes you makeup go on really smooth.”
How funny! But you know, a dermatologist turned me onto using Milk of Magnesia for a face mask, so who knows …
My heavens! PeaceBang is all flushed trying to imagine what Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel is doing in the feminine hygiene aisle! What kind of chafing, pray tell, does it claim to cure? Perhaps you shouldn’t answer that question, dear readers.
Anyway, we love fun product tips here at BTFM and this certainly seems to be a two-for-one, or even a three-for-one (if you consider the Milk of Magnesia tip a freebie).
PeaceBang has noticed a serious hard-sell by her favorite cosmetics companies for foundation primers lately, and doesn’t understand who would add an extra layer of pore-closing goo to their skin if they didn’t have to. Perhaps television actors or models or televangelists might have use for such a thing as Spackle by Laura Geller (it’s really called Spackle), but it seems to PeaceBang that the average Rev. Joe or Jill can do fine without this extra step.

Bon Voyage, Lizard Eater! May all of our trekking about yield nary a blister.
Kiss of peace, PB

I’d actually consider using this product. On my um, face. I have resisted using foundation for years, since I’ve had clear skin and don’t like feeling overly made-up. More importantly, no matter how well I moisturize, foundation tends to do weird crepe-y things around my mouth and chin, making me look decades older.
Now, however, the age spots are setting in. I would love to be able to use foundation without the crepe effect.
Any ideas? [I might try a lightening cream on the age spots, moisturize, and avoid foundation for as long as you can. Or just blend a bit into discolored spots. – PB]
Yes! See, I have problems with makeup settling into fine lines on my face, mostly around my eyes. This, of course, provides emphasis somewhere I would rather not have it.
But with foundation primer, the makeup no longer sinks down into those lines. Problem solved. Sometimes I wear the primer under powder: no foundation.
I use Serious Skin Care’s C Primer (available through HSN), and have not suffered additional breakouts because of it.
I have oily skin but it is also rough and use some stuff from Elizabeth Arden as a primer – it’s not greasy and makes my skin really smooth and keeps the foundation from getting cakey. I really like it.
Well alrighty, then! Sounds like you gals are digging this stuff. Good to know!
Hi PB! I bought some Monistat Chafing Gel awhile back to use for what I assume is its intended purpose. I live in the hot, humid south & I wear a lot of skirts in the summer. Not to put too fine a point on it, but my thighs rub together and I get painful rashy places. The Chafing Gel helps with that…it dries to kind of a powdery consistency and helps with friction. See, nothing too sinister!
I don’t know about use as a foundation, but I can testify to the mighty powers of the anti-chafing gel when used for its original purpose. A dab on my well-endowed thighs keeps me from chafing horribly when I wear skirts on those hot summer days. I’d honestly just about had to give up wearing skirts before I discovered this stuff.
Somewhat related…
I’m a 38DD and try to run at least 3 or 4 miles a day. Used to get major chafing under the girls until Runner’s World asked readers what they use to prevent chafing. Anyway, someone suggested deoderant and it works like a charm. Even better than the anti-chafing product “Glide.”
Monistat: I absolutely LOVE tips like these.
I use Smashbox Primer. It’s not for everyday, but when that makeup needs to stay right where I put it for a good long time, and I’m wearing full foundation and not just a bit of Neutrogena moisturizer, it really does work wonders. It’s a special-occasion full-face makeup.
I love spackle. Most days its not an extra step, its my only step.
