Nails

A friend of mine has stopped biting her nails and her hands look so lovely! So if you can stop biting, pookies, do stop. Gee, it looks so much more sane and mature when the tips of our fingers don’t look like a Rottweiler has been using them as a chew toy.

I, on the other hand, am eschewing the manicurist for reasons of Being on Sabbatical and am having a great time chawing on my paws. I know it’s a disgusting habit and all, but I kind of enjoy the respite from fake, pretty nails. True confessions: I LIKE biting my nails! Num, num!

Trouble is, I have an Event coming up and while I don’t want to have the fakeys put back on (too expensive and I have no desire to keep up with the fill-ins while I’m traveling this spring, etc.), it’s definitely time to get a manicure. Bright colors do look good on very short nails, darlings, so for all you nail-chompers out there, try it! A manicure will clean up those raggedy cuticles and the bright (or dramatic, dark) color on your nails will help you keep your paws out of your mouth. Of course if your nails are chewed way down past the ends of your fingers, avoid colored polish in favor of clear until those suckers grow a little bit. Guys, if you’re trying to break the habit, treat yourself to the occasional manicure to keep the cuticles looking nice and the nails buffed. I promise it will help.

Of course when I say “treat yourself to a manicure,” I don’t mean to imply that you can’t DIY. Better yet, get together with a friend and give each other manicures!

Here I am being silly at Duane Reed in New York City showing you some of the bright nail polish colors out there, and eventually getting admonished by management:

What I was GOING to say before the Privacy Police interrupted us is that a really vibrant color on the nails can be a really fun way to snazz up a very classic, monochromatic outfit. Thanks to Suzanna for the video.

  1. When I saw the title of your blog on my blog subscriptions, I thought you were going to talk about the nails that Jesus endured on the cross. My bad.

    Peace and love,

  2. Do you have any do it yourself manicure tips to avoid chipping –I can’t seem to go a day without chipping but when I pay someone else, it seems to stay on longer.

The fake nails keep me from biting. I’m saving up for acrylics for Easter and hoping they’ll last another week for a big church anniversary I’m going to the next weekend.

  3. My 14 year old daughter painted my toenails bright blue back in December. I thought it was fun…til I broke my toe. My doctor was out, I had to see a stuff old doctor from his practice, who told me I was much too old for such things. 😛
